President Biden Calls on the American People to “Dissent” and Decide if Donald Trump is “Unfit” for Office

From ABC News

Saying “I dissent,” President Joe Biden called on the American People this evening to do “what the law will no longer do:” to decide if Donald Trump is “Unfit” for office.

Rather than embrace and take hold of the new found powers todays United States Supreme Court ruling on immunity and official duties bestowed on him, President Biden, behaving like President George Washington at the start of the Republic, said “I dissent” to what the six conservative majority handed down today, commenting that:

“He (Washington) believed power was limited not absolute. And that power always resides in the people always…I know I will respect the limits of the presidential Powers I have for three and a half years.”

Saying at the beginning of his remarks that the Presidency is a job that “tests your character” and the President “needs the wisdom to respect the limits of the power of the Presidency,” Biden reminded the audience that:

This nation was founded on the principle, but there are no Kings in America. Each of us is equal before the law. No one, no one is above the law. Not even the President of the United States.”

President Biden also said that what the Supreme Court laid down today sets:

“…A dangerous precedent. Because the power of the office will no longer be constrained by the law, even including the Supreme Court of the United States. The only limits will be self-imposed by the President alone…Today’s decision further undermines the rule of law of this nation.”

Biden further expressed his disbelief at the Court arriving at this decision given the horrors everyone saw with the Trump inspired domestic terrorist mob on January 6, 2021, calling the events, including violent insurrectionists hunting down Speaker Nancy Pelosi and erecting gallows for Trump’s own Vice President, Mike Pence, “one of the darkest days in the history of America.”

Declaring that the six person conservative majority on the Supreme Court did “a terrible disservice to the people of this nation,” he asserted that the:

American people have to do what the courts should have been willing to do, but will not. The American people have to render a judgment about Donald Trump’s behavior. The American people must decide whether Donald Trump’s assault on our Democracy on January 6th makes him unfit for public office in the highest office in the land. The American people must decide if Trump’s embrace of violence to preserve his power is acceptable Perhaps most importantly. American people must decide if They want to entrust the presidency once again to Donald Trump now knowing he’ll be more emboldened to do whatever he pleases whatever he wants to do.”

Citing Justice Sonia Sotomayor’s dissent where she wrote “The President is now a king above the law. With fear for our Democracy I dissent,” President Biden closed with calling the American People “to dissent” like he and Justice Sotomayor does.

His next to last sentence in his remarks had a feeling of more urgency today. It was “And God help preserve our Democracy.”

With todays comments, Joe Biden again proved he has the character of a President and why he is the better man to continue serving in the Oval Office the next four years.
