On the first night of the Republican National Convention where the delegates, speakers (including Marjorie ‘Jewish Space Lasers’ Taylor Greene and Mark ‘Some People Need Killing’ Robinson,) new Vice President nominee (J.D. Vance) who said women should stay in abusive marriages and blamed Biden for the assassination attempt on Trump, and event organizers (who broadcast a video of President Biden falling,) not doing much of anything to tone down the hot political temperature, President Joe Biden interviewed with NBC’s Lester Holt.
It should be noted that the following Republican national leaders will probably not appear at their own party’s National Convention.
- Former President George W. Bush.
- Former Vice President Mike Pence.
- Former Vice President Dick Cheney.
- Former Vice President Dan Quayle.
- Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.
- Former House Speaker Paul Ryan.
- Former House Speaker John Bohner.
- 2012 Presidential Nominee Mitt Romney
It is like the history of the Republican Party of the Twenty-First Century before and not including Donald Trump has been erased.
Senate Republican Mitch McConnell, the man responsible for the three Trump Supreme Court picks and stopping Mr. Trump’s conviction at his second impeachment trial, was booed by a very ungrateful group of delegates. They probably saw the Trump social media post where he marked McConnell and Pence for arrest if he regains power.
Back to the interview. The highlights were:
- Mr. Biden described his conversation with Mr. Trump following the attempted assassination as cordial. He also reaffirmed what he said in his Oval Office address last night that there is never a place for political violence.
- The President said he would not stop telling voters that Democracy was under threat. When asked by Holt if he could clamp down his rhetoric on calling Trump an existential threat, Biden asked if he should be expected to be silent. When asked if using the word bullseye may not have been appropriate, the President said it may have been a mistake and then told Holt the context of how he used the word by focusing on Mr. Trump’s lies and actions including, as Mr. Biden noted several times in the interview, his predecessor’s words that have incited violence like January 6, the attack on Paul Pelosi, and saying there will be a bloodbath if he loses the election. NEWSFLASH: Biden has never said anything remotely like Trump.
- Mr. Biden said he was staying in the race and asked the voters to judge him on the legislative accomplishments enacted in his term. When asked about his age, he said he recognizes that is a concern but he wanted the people to judge him on what he has accomplished, even as an older President. He also reminded Holt that Trump is only three years older than him.
- When asked if should he get back on the horse and debate Trump again before the next scheduled debate in September, the President became agitated, saying “I’m on the horse” and reminded the journalist that he had done 22 events since the debate.
- Mr. Biden also became annoyed with Holt’s constant questioning about his poor debate performance and questioned him on why the press was not giving the same time to Trump’s lies during the debate. A slightly defensive Holt said they had covered it (not at the same rate though.)
- Mr. Biden said he was not surprised at Judge Canon’s ruling dismissing the Classified Documents case against Mr. Trump. He partially blamed Clarence Thomas for this outcome with his opinion on Presidential Immunity. When asked if he would continue to bring up Mr. Trump’s convictions and other legal issues, the President said he would.
- The President said Trump picked a MAGA soul mate in J.D. Vance as his Vice Presidential pick although he also brought up all the times the Ohio Senator spoke out against Mr. Trump during 2016.
When the interview ended, the President suggested Mr. Holt come back so they could discuss the issues.

I watched and while I will vote for Biden because we have no choice, he comes off poorly bec. he constantly stops in his thoughts. That is a sign of some problem, probably neurological. I’m not a doctor, but it is not normal to constantly be doing that.
The Dems are going to need a better candidate to take his place and pick a VP who would bring energy to the campaign. I don’t see Harris as being that person, but if she is the nominee she needs to get someone like Mark Warner to shore up foreign policy concerns, which hasn’t been a bright spot.
We are electing a president for the next 4 years, not on what he did the last 3 1/2. That matters but the electorate needs to be confident the president will be able to perform his duties.
