Arizona State Representative John Gillette has been suffering from a severe, filthy, and vile case of foot in mouth disease over the last month.
Earlier this month, he went on an Islamophobic rant, accusing people who are Muslim “savages,” berated Governor Katie Hobbs for her association with Muslims, said Democrats tolerance for the Islamic faith is proof that “Democrats hate America,” and asserted that they are trying to instill Sharia Law in the United States.
Unfortunately for the nation, these vile, intolerant, know nothing, and disgusting attitudes are not confined to Mr. Gillette.
During his rambling remarks before the United Nations last week, Donald Trump falsely accused Sir Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, of bringing Sharia Law to that metropolitan city.
Following the assassination of Charlie Kirk, Gillette accused the Democrats of creating the atmosphere that led to the Turning Point Founder’s murder, saying:
“The tone was set by your party; unity is no longer an option. We handed you an olive ranch (sic), and you broke it. Your party invited the radicals to the table and they took over. Now you own them. As the J**s did at Peral (sic) Harbor, Radical Muslims on 911, your party has woken the sleeping giant.”
Again, unfortunately for the country, there are variations of those sickening and divisive remarks at the national level from Mr. Trump, Mr. Vance, and Stephen Miller.
Last week, Gillette continued his unhinged attacks on the left, recommending treason charges followed by a conviction and hanging for Representative Pramila Jayapal because she released social media videos in March outlining the best ways to nonviolently resist the excesses of the Trump-Project 2025-MAGA-Fascist wannabe regime.
His exact words were:
“Until people like this, that advocate for the overthrow of the American government are tried convicted and hanged.. it will continue.”
It seems by Mr. Gillette’s logic, Mr. Trump and the Domestic Terrorists he enabled to storm the Capitol on January 6, 2021 to overthrow the results of the 2020 election would fall under his criteria for treason.
Oh wait.
In the excellent reporting on Mr. Gillette’s despicable remarks by AZ Mirror, it turns out that the MAGA Republican thinks that Trump and the January 6 domestic terrorists were in the right and hounded into jail as hostages without proper due process.
Guess Trump and the January 6 Domestic Terrorists do not fall under the category of “people like this.”
Reacting to AZ Mirrors reporting, Gillette took issue with the headline, specifically the word “executed,” penning the below response, saying that he wanted full due process for Jayapal before they executed…excuse me…hanged her.
Reacting to Gillette’s disgraceful tirade, Representative Jaypal issued a statement that read:
“Two days ago, an elected member of the Arizona State House of Representatives called for me and those who advocate for nonviolent resistance training to be ‘tried, convicted and hanged.’ This is appalling, unacceptable, and dangerous from anyone, but particularly from an elected official. It is a call to violence designed to suppress nonviolent democratic organizing against authoritarianism and further polarize the American public for political gain. Sadly, it makes the world a more dangerous place for each of us.
“We simply cannot normalize this violent political speech. All political leaders, of all parties, should denounce this and embrace one another as equals, deserving of care and respect.
“My trainings, which have reached over 15,000 people in all 50 states, explicitly teach about Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi’s principles of nonviolent resistance. They give people a voice and a means to effect change without resorting to the exact sort of violent escalation that Representative Gillette is calling for. I intend to continue to train and organize for nonviolent change in our country that lifts up all people and preserves our democracy.”
Jaypals colleague in the House of Representatives Yassamin Ansari issued a post in support of the Washington Representative:
House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jefferies, in reporting by AZ Mirror, said:
“These dangerous comments calling for her execution are unconscionable. Arizona legislators must hold this unhinged elected official accountable for contributing to an unsafe environment and risking bodily harm to a sitting Member of Congress. There is no place for the incitement of political violence in this country. Republican leaders must reject it immediately.”
Democratic Leaders at the Arizona State Legislature did not mince words either about Gillette’s verbal trash.
Commenting to Blog for Arizona, Democratic House Leader Oscar De Los Santos stated:
“John Gillette’s call for a Member of Congress to be executed is not a legitimate political opinion. It is a vile death threat that must be condemned by all in the strongest possible terms. Yet House Republicans have said absolutely nothing. Silence in the face of calls for execution is complicity and cowardice.”
When Gillettes bull fecal matter was first reported by AZ Mirror, Assistant Democratic House Leader Nancy Gutierrez commented to that news organization:
“The Congresswoman was clearly talking about nonviolent protest and legal strikes — absolutely nothing violent,” Assistant House Democratic Leader Nancy Gutierrez said in a statement to the Mirror. “Representative Gillette misconstrued her words to once again put a target on a political opponent’s back, calling for her to be hanged. What will he need to say before Republican leadership in the House takes action? This is language that leads to violence. I’m tired of him putting us and our families at risk.”
She added to Blog for Arizona:
“As I have said before, Mr. Gillette has repeatedly called for violence in the recent weeks and it’s unacceptable and unbecoming of the office that he holds. I have constituents asking me what’s being done about it, and it’s difficult to have to tell them that we are still waiting for the House Republicans to even respond.
As a teacher, I knew the government wasn’t doing anything to protect me and my students from violence and that it was my responsibility. Now, I see that there’s no desire from the House Republicans to keep any of us safe. I’m utterly disappointed.”
State Senate Democratic Leader Priya Sundareshan shared her below social media post after Gillettes latest verbal assaults.
Pima County Democratic Chair Eric Robbins commented in his weekly newsletter to local party members:
“…And let me tell you about Rep. John Gillette (National Disgrace-Kingman) who I declare here to be no patriot, no servant of the people, but rather three vile pest-ridden weasels in a human suit, with my sincere apology to weasels. This sack called for a Democrat to be executed. Not metaphorically. Literally. For supporting our Constitutionally protected right to peaceful protest. The AZGOP just dismissed an ethics complaint against Gillette for similar language, because when “it’s their bastard,” as we have learned, there is no floor.
It is dangerous. It is outrageous. And it is not without precedent.
This is what happens when you give a bully a cookie rather than a time-out – and now he’s doubling down.”
He later added to Blog for Arizona:
“His (Gillette’s use as messenger for further violence is, in my opinion, 100% by design. The GOP may be corrupt but they can count – and they know most Americans, once informed, do not and will not support them via Democratic means. This is a road they have gone down with Donald Trump – it’s GoonAutocracy, and disgraced former police officer Gillette is their slack-jawed poster-child.”
It should be clear to all people that most of the remarks calling for intolerance and political violence, like the actual crimes against innocent people, are coming from the extreme right who are enabled by the likes of disgusting individuals like Mr. Gillette and his idol in Washington D.C., Mr. Trump.
People need to vote these individuals who pretend to be serving you out in the next elections.
They should have no say in governing.
The people deserve better.
