Republican Hypocrisy Shows Itself Again in the Josselyn Berry Resignation

Republicans in the Arizona State Legislature are openly peddling legislation discriminating against members of the LGBTQ Community, including children.

Let us say that again.

Republicans are openly supporting legislation discriminating against children.

Anthony Kearn, one of the Republicans at the Arizona State Legislator is suspected of taking part in the January 6, 2021, Domestic Terrorist Attack at the Nations Capitol.

Another “legislator,” Jake Troll Farm Hoffman has spent many waking hours working to secure legislation that will thwart Democracy in Arizona. He was also involved in the fake elector scheme for Donald Trump in 2020.

Let us also not forget Wendy Rogers, the darling of the MAGA Trump White Nationalist Alternate Universe. She is the legislator who never met a conspiracy theory she did not like, believes the COVID-19 Vaccine symbolizes the Mark of the Beast, and was accused of harassing one of her staffers days after being sworn into the Arizona State Senate.

These individuals are threats to common decency, are committed to setting back social progress to the segregationist 1950s,  and use the legislative process to fund discrimination against children, pay for religious private schools, and war against Democracy.

The sad part of all of this is when people have justifiably called for their resignations, these paragons of all that is wrong with Body Politic have stayed put.

What is also horrific is many of these are the same enemies of the people who called on Governor Katie Hobbs’s Press Secretary, Josselyn Berry to resign over an admittedly very inappropriate tweet suggesting violence against transphobes.

What hypocrisy.

While the Governor showed a commitment to high ethical and decency standards by asking for and receiving Ms. Berry’s resignation (although in this writer’s opinion,  a public apology, given this has not happened before, should have sufficed,) it is astounding that these very same Republican legislators, the people that have done infinitely more damage to the people than Ms. Berry ever did or could, are still allowed to serve and cause deliberate destruction and chaos to people’s lives and the Democratic system.

Hopefully, voters will remember this in legislative races in 2024 and beyond.
