[S]tate Sen. Russell Pearce, R-Mesa, was on stage accepting the Legislator of the Year award from the pro-free-market group Americans for Prosperity.
Here's the context of that line, which makes things a bit more complex:
The tea party gathering Thursday at Tempe Diablo Stadium showed the wide range of interests and at times exposed tensions. While state Sen. Russell Pearce, R-Mesa, was on stage accepting the Legislator of the Year award from the pro-free-market group Americans for Prosperity, libertarian activists were outside handing out fliers accusing Pearce of taking steps toward an "anti-freedom" national ID "under the guise of illegal immigration enforcement."

God bless russell Pearce
Gee, Why would you call yourself The Ghost of Chester Arthur and link to the Exclusion act? Are you really Russell Pearce?
Russell Pearce has the support of the only voting bloc that counts – the people who care enough to put in the time and effort to vote (and persuade a dozen of their friends and other undecideds to vote).

So if libertarians and Democrats don’t support Russell Pearce, and Republicans are 30% or less of the electorate, how is he elected year after year? Could it be a religious voting bloc?
I got a call last week asking if I supported the Tea Party movement. As soon as I said ‘no’ they hung up.
