Russell Pearce’s “fair and balanced leadership”

Steve Pierce, R-Prescott — no relation to Russell Pearce, except in general ideology — has a Guest Opinion in the Capitol Times (subscription only), supporting Pearce.

As a member of the Senate Republican caucus, I lend my support for Senate President Russell Pearce. He has demonstrated fair and balanced leadership during one of the most difficult times in the history of our state.

You don't have to read any more, really. That says it all.

If the term "fair and balanced" weren't already a punch line, using that term to describe Pearce would have a fresh kind of merriment to it. But as it is, it's a dog whistle — "Yoohoo, if you like Fox News, you'll like Pearce!" — that has enough human overtones (undertones?), even a liberal like me can hear it.
