Russell Pearce sent out his May 30 newsletter to supporters, talking about the bills he wants to push through once the budget is passed. (When will it be passed? According to Pearce, "Next Week I hope and pray." Three days left, Russell.)
I looked through the bills he's rooting for. Nine of the sixteen are about what must be the single most important issue confronting Arizona — after cutting off funding of government programs at the knees, of course: illegal immigration. Get them in their vehicles, in public housing, in schools and where they're employed. If we don't catch 'em one way, we'll catch 'em the other. (I included an anti-affirmative action bill in the list. Not directly illegal alien legislation, but in the same racist ball park. It was a judgment call.)
Some of the others: One of those Taxpayer Bill of Rights (TABOR) bills that limit the growth of government to inflation plus population; state sovereignty legislation (Man, I sure hope we'll still be able to get the stimulus money. We don't want to be that sovereign!); two gun bills; and a military family relief fund that Pearce assures us will take no public dollars. Wouldn't want to spend any public money on those military families, now would we?
This may be the first time I'm hoping they don't get a budget passed until 2 seconds before midnight on the last day of the session. Let them all go home before they can do any more damage.
