Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction Kathy Hoffman is continuing to sound the alert on the budget situation for public schools should the Arizona State Legislature not act soon to remove the spending cap expenditure limit on funding.
In a series of social media posts, Superintendent Hoffman has effectively highlighted how certain school districts would suffer if Republicans at the State Legislature did not get off their reactionary butts and lift the spending cap
So far, no Republican leader (Speaker Bowers or Senate President Fann) has advanced any Democratic proposal to either lift the cap for this year or permanently repeal it.
Instead, as Ms. Hoffman alluded to, they have been advancing various fringe bills to:
- Ban books.
- Ban transgender athletes.
- Report students to their parents if they confide in their teachers that they are homosexual.
- Distort the true telling of American History.
How are those reactionary, fringe proposals going to help anyone or move the state and Arizona residents forward?
Superintendent Hoffman is right.
The Republicans at the Arizona State Legislature need to act.
Especially since there is still a Coronavirus pandemic, no child or parent should have to fear more loss of learning time or being unsafely crunched into a larger classroom because a teacher had to be laid off.
Teachers and staff members, the ones who have worked the front lines endeavoring to provide a quality education to children, sometimes with one hand tied behind their backs depending on how out of sync with reality the school districts COVID 19 mitigation strategies are, should not have to wonder if they are going to have their paychecks delayed after spring break or worse, having to find another job because they have been laid off because Republicans in the Arizona State Legislature are fiddling while public schools financially crumble.
Contact the Republicans at the Arizona State Legislature and tell them to stop endangering the lives and financial well being of all education stakeholders.
Enough is Enough.
Republicans need to stop harming public schools.
