I wish I could show you the video to do this justice, but it's on the Arizona Guardian subscription-only site. So I'll just have to describe it to you.
Sen. Sylvia Allen is arguing on the senate floor that we should allow uranium mining in Arizona. She's sitting in her swivel chair, laptop open in front of her, occasionally glancing at the screen, like these are prepared comments.
Imagine Roseanne Barr doing a Saturday Night Live skit, sounding a little naggy and a little stupid. That will give you the intonation.
Allen says she wants "our grandchildren to have the same lifestyle that we have." Then she stumbles, like she's trying to figure out where to go next. "And . . . and" . . . Then it comes. "This earth's been here 6000 years . . ."
Allen looks to her left, as if someone is saying something to her. ". . . and I know I'm going on and on and I'll shut up," she continues.
If the person to her left was telling her "Ix-nay on the 6000 years stuff," Allen doesn't take the hint, because she repeats it. "It's been here 6000 years, long before anyone had environmental laws, and somehow it hasn't been done away with. And, um, we need to get the uranium here in Arizona . . ."
Anyone know on what day God created uranium? And why?
UPDATE: Here's the video for all to enjoy. Thanks, Kenny.
