Spocko’s thoughts on tonight’s Nugent concert

by David Safier

I've been talking about Ted Nugent — his mouth, his penchant for guns and his performance tonight at the Pima County Fair — to a guy who uses the handle "Spocko." Spocko wrote a long, well researched piece on Firedoglake about the weapons rules at the Fair and the consequences of carrying, whether you're Nugent or a paying customer. Toward the end he mentions our conversations (spelling my name wrong, but hey, I'll take what I can get) and says I'm more of an optimist than he is because I don't think Nugent will be carrying tonight. My gut feeling is, Nugent plays insane when he's got a microphone in front of him (channeling his inner demons), but he's basically in control. He knows what he's doing. It's his mouth and some less-sane audience member who may be influenced by it I'm most concerned about.

One thing Spocko didn't mention in his post. He told me Nugent can bring a prop rifle onstage, so long as it can't possibly be fired. Seeing as how the Star has given tonight's performance two articles already, I imagine we'll find out all about it tomorrow.
