Stanfield, Tovar, and Mundell Present their Cases to the People at the Arizona Corporation Commission Debate

Arizona PBS hosted the debate between the six candidates vying for the three seats on the Arizona Corporation Commission that are on the ballot in the November 3, 2020 elections.

The Democratic Nominees are Shea Stanfield, Anna Tovar, and Bill Mundell.

The Republican contestants are Lea Marquez Peterson, Jim O’Connor, and Eric Sloan.

The topics included:

  • Dark Money Influence on the Commission.
  • Code of Ethics-Conflict of Interest Rules.
  • The Influence of APS.
  • Climate Change and the need to invest in Renewable Energy.
  • Deregulation in the Power Market.
  • Stopping Shutoffs during periods of high temperatures.

All the candidates were professional and cordial with one another.

The Democratic Nominees ably presented their cases for why they should be chosen by voters this November.

The exchanges with Mr. Sloan on campaign donations (he tried to accuse the Democrats of taking donations like he does; they do not) and Mr. O’Connor on climate change (he is a nonbeliever) and renewable energy were, to quote the Mastercard Commercials, priceless.

All three Democrats commented on Wednesdays Debate.

Shea Stanfield stated:

“Yes, the Solar Team 2020 is ready to go with a depth of experience, variety of insights, and a common focus. Fighting the corruption that has ignored Arizonans, giving Arizonans three representatives that will work with Sandra Kennedy to bring their voice to the Commission and will move Arizona forward into a clean energy future. Vote for ALL 3 Dems for the ACC.”

Anna Tovar wrote:

“We think the debate reinforced what we already knew – the three Democrats are running because they want to protect consumers from unfair rate hikes and create a realistic pathway to 100% clean and renewable energy. While, on the other side of the political aisle, we saw the candidates sidestep questions about holding utilities accountable and providing any clear vision about a clean, renewable energy future. The difference was crystal clear.”

Bill Mundell commented:

“Our Clean Elections debate clearly showed, that unlike our Republican opponents, the SolarTeam2020 wants to protect Arizona families and businesses from nonstop unjustified rate increases.”

Election Day is in 33 days.
