How far to the right has the Republican legislature moved? Even Steve Yarbrough can't believe it. From the Capitol Times May 6 Quotes page:
“Somebody the other day told me that I’m somehow in the middle of the Senate caucus. I thought, wow, that is amazing if I’m in the middle in the Republican caucus, because typically it’s been probably fairly difficult to find a lot of people to the right of me. But apparently not as difficult now.”
Watch out, Steve, they're gonna be calling you a socialist any day now.
Here's your Bonus Quote. Cap'n Al Melvin, a budget hawk who thinks we can't spend one more dime than we bring in, thinks we should put the newly created (by law, anyway) Arizona State Guard on the border even if the legislature doesn't appropriate a penny to pay for it.
“I’m not going to let that be an excuse not to do it.” — Sen. Al Melvin, on Brewer’s comments that the Legislature must appropriate money for the new Arizona State Guard before it can be called into service. Melvin wants the new state-run force deployed to the Mexican border.
