h/t to AZ Blue Meanie for sending me this public service announcement from 1952 featuring Superman.
When Mr. Stanton says we don't need hospitals in his town in the first panel, Superman sets him straight:
"Since the days of the first settlers, Americans have helped each other when sickness and trouble came. Today we help, through taxes and contributions, to support health and welfare services in our communities, so that anyone, rich or poor, can have them available at any time."
[snip]
"All these public and private agencies help to protect the welfare of the community — and that means your welfare too!"
Here's the page-long strip:
BONUS BACKGROUND INFO: The Superman piece appeared in the comic book, "The Adventures of Bob Hope, No. 15," published June-July, 1952. I couldn't find the cover of that issue. This is a cover from a few issues later.
I guess by today's Republican standards, Bob Hope would be a flaming liberal, just like that illegal alien, Superman.
