(TASL) The cockles of my TASL heart are warmed by the idea that Pima County is considering raising taxes to fund essential services. And what could be more essential than saving Spring Training?
The County may create its own Sports and Tourism Authority.
“The authority almost certainly would levy new taxes . . . But County Administrator Chuck Huckelberry said he doesn’t know yet what new taxes would be used to raise money for baseball. He plans to appoint the business leaders who currently are part of an informal working group to the board of an interim sports authority. He wants them to work out what new taxes and fees would make the most sense.” [Bold/italic emphasis added]
Thank God they’re not talking about “throwing money at education.” What a waste that would be! But levying taxes so people can continue to throw small round balls to one another . . . what a great idea!
