The Texas Education Code includes the following:
Sec. 28.011. ELECTIVE COURSES ON THE BIBLE'S HEBREW SCRIPTURES (OLD TESTAMENT) AND NEW TESTAMENT AND THEIR IMPACT ON THE HISTORY AND LITERATURE OF WESTERN CIVILIZATION. (a) A school district may offer to students in grade nine or above: . . .
The wording is nearly identical to what you find in Terri Proud's HB2563 (details here). The changes in the Texas Education Code were based on HB1287 passed in 2007, which took effect in 2009-10. Proud took her bill virtually outright from the Texas legislation.
Arizona's education has already been Floridated with our homages to the "Florida Education Miracle," which was neither especially miraculous nor especially effective. Now we're being Texa-cated as well.
