The Way Forward?

Many Democratic centrist candidates come off as “Republican Lite” which ever since Reagan has put Democrats being perceived as being in a defensive crouch instead of aggressively confronting the folly of Republican policies while highlighting Democratic ideals exemplified by FDR. Many voters given the choice of a Republican or Republican Lite will go with the former.

Some of the catastrophes the Republicans have put the country through:

• Starting with the Great Depression , caused by their economic policies that overwhelming favor the wealthy over everyone else. A lesson they refuse to learn.

• Conducting witch hunts during the 50’s that destroyed many lives while finding few, if any harmful Communists.

• Reaganomics, which drove the economy into a ditch.

• Reagan administration selling weapons to our adversary, Iran. And Bush the Elder, after being encouraged by Bill Barr, pardoned all his co-conspirators.

• Republican national security establishment being asleep at the switch after being warned “Bin Laden determined to attack the US”. Then using that attack for political gain launching two forever wars (one against a country that nothing to do with September 11th) while denouncing those that opposed as being unpatriotic.

• Loosening economic regulations which directly caused the 2008 economic crisis and then trashing the resulting economic reforms that were meant to prevent another one.

• Bush II wanting to privatize Social Security based on the stock market, which if enacted may have broken the program after the above economic crisis.

After the crimes of the Bush II administration a centrist Obama encouraged the country to “look forward and not back”. Reinforcing the attitude, started by Ford’s pardoning of Nixon, that consequences for bad acts don’t apply to Republicans.

And this doesn’t get into the myriad criminal behavior from both Trump administrations.

With their record of outlawry, the Republican Party has left so much on the table for the Democratic Party to show why Republicans are a cancer on the country yet it seems that centrists refuse to pick up those weapons and use them. And now with the murderous abuses committed by Trump’s ICE/CBP thugs, the centrist Democratic leadership, exemplified by Jeffries and Schumer is determined to focus on kitchen table issues while treating the criminal authoritarian & Constitution shredding behavior enabled by Republican politicians as an afterthought. Surely our Democratic leadership can simultaneously walk, chew gum and go on the offensive? Stand up and be counted for something! Give Democrat voters motivation to get out and vote!

Democrats would be wise to launch a series of ads on TV, social media, etc. each outlining a particular aspect of incompetent Republican governance until the country finally gets it.

With the majority of Republicans in the House and Senate voting to enact the worst of Trump’s policies into law and rubber stamping his cabinet nominees, a series of ads tailored to each one up for reelection showing the consequences of those laws & cabinet confirmations and that republican supporting and voting for it.

Juxtapose footage of candidate calling January 6 a peaceful protest with images of January 6 riot. “Really? Congressman/Senator?”

Each ad should close with “When Republicans win….America loses.”

Oh, and “I’m (insert candidate’s name) and I wholeheartedly approve this message”.

  1. I’m with you! “Republican Lite” loses to the real thing every time. Diet versions don’t satisfy anyone, they just leave an aftertaste.

Republicans own a record of economic crashes, deregulation disasters, forever wars, pardoned crimes, and now open violence and authoritarianism enforced by ICE and CBP.

Democrats keep treating this like a messaging problem instead of a moral emergency. Are they waiting for it to get worse before they react? History suggests it always does. At some point, caution stops being strategy and becomes cowardice.

The Democrats can talk about costs and call out criminal governance. Choosing not to is political malpractice.

Name the damage. Name the votes. Make them own it.

    When Republicans win, America loses.
