Once again the popular Tucson Festival of Books is coming to the University of Arizona mall during Spring Break, on March 14 and 15, 2026.

All info here: https://tucsonfestivalofbooks.org/.
Brand new this year is that you are required to bring only see-thru bags (scroll down for info) if attending author events. This is probably for added security since famed author Salman Rushie is one the featured presenters. He’s the author of ”Satanic Voices”(2008) and the “Eleventh Hour” (2025). Click on this link to read about the various authors, including Rushdie. He’s speaking on Sunday March 15 at 10 a.m. in the North Ballroom of the Student Union Memorial Center. Fast passes are required for entry and that venue seats 670.

“New this year: when attending author events, use a clear bag to avoid entry delays while adhering to the university’s Clear Bag Policy. “

Happy reading once again. And check out the news media booths hosted by Arizona Daily Star, Az Luminaria, AZPM, Tucson Sentinel, Tucson Spotlight. Years ago I helped staff the Tucsoncitizen.com booth, which was quite time consuming. We at Blog for Arizona have not hosted a booth.

Reminder: today and tomorrow, all day Tucson Festival of Books with good weather, hopefully. Don’t forget to get out your clear bag if you’re going to author events. Take the FREE Sun Tran bus or Sun Link streetcar as gas prices are skyrocketing. Enjoy the festival.
More info on this new clear bag policy, with no explanation for it. UA Campus Store and C-Span booth (#225) will have bags: https://tucson.com/life-entertainment/local/events/article_a9385da5-52e8-4773-9ec6-f78e4164dab8.html#tracking-source=home-top-story
Will there be an opportunity to buy clear (approved) bags at the festival?
No idea. But send them an email inquiry? I just happen to own a clear plastic bag, and lot of sports fans do too.

An alternative is to not take any bag, just your wallet and a water bottle.
I asked the TFB people on FB and here’s a reply regarding clear bags – “clear bags will be available for sale (at) exhibitor tents such as Stacks Book Club.” I looked up the exhibitor list and Stacks Book Club is at booth 228.https://tucsonfestivalofbooks.org/?id=35
Wonderful. Thank you.
