My husband and I were invited to the 2nd year anniversary pot luck of Tucson Food Share, at 2500 N. Stone Ave. (NE corner of N. Stone Ave. x E. Alturas St.), one block north of Grant Rd. We were impressed with this volunteer run organization of dedicated people who want to help with food insecurity in Tucson. They cook, package, deliver food all week to whoever needs it. And right now they need drivers to deliver food packages, as well as help at their facility.
“Tucson Food Share is a collective effort by and for Tucsonans to share life-giving resources amongst ourselves, without dependence upon government or corporate support. This is an entirely volunteer-run project that relies upon the labor and donations of countless participants to function. We operate by the principles of mutual aid, distributing food and other necessities without judgment to anyone who asks. We seek to make resources accessible, prioritizing the needs of our neighbors who are forgotten, ignored, and exploited by those in power. Through this process, we are creating and strengthening community bonds that empower a collective resilience through relationships of trust and care. It’s a practice that fills the heart and soul as much as it fills the belly!”
Food available at their location for pickup on:
Mondays 6 to 8 p.m.
Thursdays 6 to 8 p.m.
Saturdays 8 to 10 a.m.
Their delivery area is by request within a 12 mile radius of their facility. “We provide dry goods if requested (beans, rice, oats, flour, sugar, salt), local organic produce that will vary week to week, and other fresh groceries if available.”
Go online to request food (esp. if you’re home bound), or call them at 520-222-9242, Spanish/Español at 520-253-3130. No income qualifications necessary. Email contact is tucsonfoodshare.org.

They also host a community meal on Sundays at dusk (tonight!), so you can show up to cook, eat and meet friends. Some of their funding is from the CFSA, Community Foundation for Southern Arizona, which is having their large free annual event this Thursday, April 28. See our calendar for details.
Congratulations to Tucson Food Share for their 2 years of dedicated work of providing needed food for Tucsonans. And please volunteer your time if you can, as they especially need drivers to deliver food packages right now.
