Speedway the Slow Way with Steve Farley this Saturday, March 30
“Steve Farley, Democratic candidate for Mayor of Tucson, will walk Speedway from city limit to city limit – 16.5 miles from Tanque Verde Loop to Painted Hills – on Saturday, March 30.
“What better way to meet with and talk to Tucsonans and visit small businesses than walking down our most famous street?” said Farley, who represented Tucson for 12 years in the state Legislature and is a strong supporter of more transportation options for Tucson families.
Speedway the Slow Way will begin at 8 a.m. and is estimated to end around 5 p.m., with many stops along the way. Click here to see a detailed schedule of the walk.
Members of the media are invited to walk with Steve and talk about his campaign for Mayor. We will also hold two campaign events along the way:
WHEN: 10 a.m. (approx.), Saturday, March 30
WHERE: Beyond Bread, 6260 E Speedway Blvd.
WHAT: Media Availability
WHEN: 1:15 p.m. (approx.), Saturday, March 30
WHERE: eegee’s, 2510 E. Speedway Blvd. (Steve will have walked nearly 11 miles at this
point)
Supporters and anyone interested in meeting or speaking to Steve are invited to join the Speedway walk.
Since Farley’s campaign began in January, he has enjoyed meeting as many Tucsonans as possible, not only at community gatherings but in weekly installments of a Tucson Tasting Tour, held at locally owned restaurants, and Tucson Transit Tour in which he rides different bus routes and talks with riders.”

Carolyn’s note: I live near Speedway Blvd. and do walk sometimes along this route, but can’t conceive of the idea of walking 16 + miles of it. Let’s see if Steve Farley can do it. He was instrumental in the RTA vote of May 2006, which brought the modern streetcar Sun Link to Tucson. Farley has served 12 years in the Arizona State House & Senate, lost in his Gubernatorial bid in the Dem primary of August 2018.
Three candidates are running for Mayor of Tucson in the Dem primary on August 27, 2019:
former State Senator Steve Farley, Ward 1 Councilmember Regina Romero, developer Randi Dorman.

About 20 supporters at the Eegee’s on Speedway Blvd./Tucson Blvd. to meet up w/ Steve as he arrived with some of his campaign staff, who had started from Tanque Verde Loop. Amazing to have walked 11 miles and they were on time. Greeted by Pres. & VP of Sam Hughes Neighborhood Assn. (me too, I’m on the board), to tell him about the condition of our roads/bike paths. Steve said he was happy to meet with the people of Tucson along the way. 5 more miles to go to past Silverbell Rd. I only walked a bit thru Sam Hughes, to Bentley’s Coffee Shop with them. They are determined to do all 16 miles on this “walkabout” as termed by radio shop host John C. Scott on Wed.
