(TASL) The results of the independent audit of TUSD are in. According to the report, we can save $18 million over five years by making a number of changes, including closing 10 schools and programs.
The Star doesn’t break down the cuts in a meaningful way, probably because it dosen’t have the breakdown yet. The District is supposed to post the entire report and an executive summary on its website, but I don’t think it’s there yet.
This tax-and-spend liberal isn’t very good at analyzing budgets. I would rather figure out how to fund schools adequately than try and figure out how to cut every stray nickel and dime, especially when those cuts result in a lower quality of education. But I’m interested in learning more about what this report suggests and the rationale behind the changes. (For instance, the report calls for hiring another attorney for the district. Is this to save the cost of contracting out legal services, or because the auditors expect more legal trouble in the future?)
If any of you out there are more adept than I am (which isn’t hard) and willing to help me look through the reports (which is harder), let me know.
