Long time Democrat District 3 Supervisor Sharon Bronson resigned in November 2023 due to injuries from a recent fall at home. 8 citizens applied to be appointed by her colleagues on the Pima County Board of Supervisors, and there is an online League of Women Voters of Greater Tucson forum on Dec. 11 to interview these applicants. See flyer below for details.
I personally know several of the applicants: Green Valley Justice Court administrator Kristen Randall (and former Pima County Constable), former LD 9 House Rep. and Ward 3 Council aide Matt Kopec (also sitting on the Amphi School Board), and former PCC Governing Bd. member Sylvia Lee. More info on the other applicants is on our Calendar event for December 11.
The other four Pima County Supervisors are apparently interviewing all applicants and will make their decision at the Dec. 19 regular board meeting, which can be viewed online as well. That meeting starts at 9 a.m.
Good luck to the applicants, one of whom will be replacing a 27 year veteran of politics, Sharon Bronson. She was probably their longest serving board member, elected 1996, re-elected 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020. Her replacement will serve a year and may run for the seat in 2024. Thank you Sharon for your long service to Pima County, and good luck with your recovery.

If you missed this forum on Monday night, here’s the You tube video of this forum, hour/half long: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0PkrwB7dYE.
Last question was “What is your favorite part of District 3?”
I watched most of this forum and discovered that 5 of the 8 applicants want only the one year’s position as a place holder. So the 3 actually wanting to run for election are Jennifer Allen, April Ignacio and Kristen Randall. The questions for all applicants from the Board of Supervisors were “What motivated you to seek this seat and will you run for the D 3 seat in 2024?, How long have you resided in D 3 and what community organizations have you participated in?, What are the significant challenges in D 3 and how would you address them? What makes you the best candidate for the position? Final?question from audience was “What do you want to accomplish in the one year appointment?” I’ll try to locate the video of this forum and post it.This was also a diverse group of applicants with Joe Machado, Jennifer Allen and Edgar Soto being Hispanic, and Sylvia Lee is Asian American, April Ignacio is Tohono O’odham Indian.
