We have an answer. “Job-killing” term stays

by David Safier

I want to be positive. I really do. I was genuinely moved by Obama's words last night. We can do this together, he said. We can deal with each other and with partisan issues in a less vitriolic way.

So as I posted a few minutes ago, I hoped a first sign might be the end of the use of the term "job-killing" by Republicans.

It's not going to happen. From the NY Times:

Republicans say they do not intend to change the name of their repeal proposal,  entitled “Repealing the Job-Killing Health Care Law Act.” Some Democrats have suggested the “job-killing” language was particularly offensive after the shooting but Republicans have rejected that notion.

That, and the fact that so many Republicans, though not all, think Palin's use of the term "blood libel" was reasonable and appropriate, makes me think it will be business as usual. Maybe the media will be better this time (he said hopefully and naively). Maybe news people will confront Republicans, asking them, "Do you really think it's appropriate to use the term, 'job-killing' in the face of the killings the country has been witness to in the past few days? Shouldn't you find another term in the interest of toning down the rhetoric?"
