What is ICE Hiding: Representative Greg Stanton Denied Entry to the Eloy Detention Facility

What is ICE and Donald Trump’s Fascist Homeland Security Department hiding at the Eloy Detention Center.

That is a question everyone should be asking as MAGA’s masked secret police goons and their confederates have denied entry to another Arizona House Representative, Congressional District Four’s Greg Stanton.

This is the second House Representative in a week the Eloy facility has denied admission to in a week.

Earlier, it was Representative Yassamin Ansari who had permission to come to the detention center before it was revoked.

According to reporting by AZ Central, Representative Stanton, with a copy of the legal statute giving him the authority to visit the Detention Center (Concentration Camp) without notice, came to Eloy unannounced on Friday, July 25, requesting entry and the ability to speak with Arizonans that he and others feel are being held there without cause and illegally.

He was not allowed in the secured part of the center and was told by an ICE representative to call the Homeland Security Congressional liaison office with his cell phone in the parking lot.

How hospitable.

In the article, Stanton commented after the experience:

“It’s illegal to deny a member of Congress the ability to come in and provide oversight over the facility. When federal law enforcement ignores the law, every American should be concerned.”

Later on social media, he posted:

On Friday, ICE prevented me from entering an immigration detention facility here in Arizona—a clear violation of federal law. That should concern us all. www.azcentral.com/story/news/p…

Later at a press conference with one of the partners of the detainees being held in Eloy, Stanton said:

“My job was to provide oversight, the opportunity to look at the facility overall and to speak to her and find out whether or not she’s being treated appropriately inside this detention facility. I was denied that ability.”

Homeland Security spokespeople claim that unannounced legal oversight visits by members of Congress are being curtailed in order “to prevent interference with the President’s Article II authority to oversee executive department functions.”

Bull Fecal Matter.

In their latest push to make the Executive Branch into a Fascist Strongman, Homeland Security is illegally denying Representative and Senators their constitutional rights to conduct oversight in this Republic’s system of Checks and Balances.

They are also, given reports from other sources, including Ansari on her earlier spring visit to the Eloy facility, undoubtedly covering up abuses of the detainees.

Stanton, Ansari, and other Representatives should immediately sue to have their full and unannounced access restored and find out what these ICE Gestapo agents are hiding and doing to these people.

The Courts need to stop this further encroachment on the laws governing the American Republic and tell Donald Trump and his Fascist apostates: Don’t thread here.

  1. Apparently, ICE has facility-sized versions of the masks used by their agents.

Neither exactly adds to their cred.

  2. I doubt the courts will do anything to enforce Congressional oversight: that’s generally considered a political question, because Congress has better and more direct means of enforcement of their prerogatives.

Unfortunately, I also doubt that Congress will bestir itself to enforce its own powers and constitutional authority without a Democratic majority. MAGA are just too cowed to effectively oppose Trump in Congress. So, if you want oversight of America’s new concentration camp system, – or maybe to abolish it – we need to vote for Democrats in congressional elections to put a check on this President’s overreach.

Otherwise, look to the past 100 years of south and central American countries’ history who made the mistake of copying our Consitution and, as a result, have a tragic legacy of overreaching authoritarian presidentialism. That’s what we can look forward to if we don’t put this country back on the path toward rebalancing what our SCrOTUS hath wrought with their Trump-era decisions expanding Presidential power explicitly and through abdication of thier responsibility with the shadow docket.
