What the Hell is Doug Ducey Thinking Taking Away the Mask Requirement for Public Schools

It is ironic that it was only about four hours ago (April 19, 2021) that Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction Kathy Hoffman said in response to a reporter’s question, that the mask requirement would stay in place for Arizona’s schools at least until summer.

It is almost as if Governor Doug Ducey was watching because, within three hours of Hoffman answering that question, he issued an Executive Order taking away the mask-wearing requirement for schools.

It is easy to imagine Ducey sitting in his office at the Capitol, thinking “I’ll show her.”

Commenting on social media, Mr. Ducey said:

“In alignment with CDC guidance, I’m rescinding orders that direct K-12 schools to require masks.
Nearly 2 million Arizonans are fully vaccinated against #COVID19, with many teachers and school faculty now fully vaccinated after being some of the first in line for vaccine prioritization.
Teachers, families, and students have acted responsibly to mitigate the spread of the virus and protect one another, and our school leaders are ready to decide if masks should be required on their campuses.
We will continue to work with public health professionals and Arizona’s schools as more students return to the classroom and our state moves forward.”

What the hell is Doug Ducey thinking or talking about.

While Arizona has made progress in vaccination distribution, only a quarter of the people are fully vaccinated and none of them are children under the age of 16.

Furthermore, what CDC guidance is he citing. There was no specific reference to any guidelines in the Executive Order or social media posting. It was just vague allusions.

Superintendent Hoffman clearly thinks this was not a good idea.

She issued a statement, condemning the Governors decision, writing:

This appears to be another example of the Grand Canyon State Governor, who earlier in the day forbade the issuing of vaccine passports, attempting to mend fences with the extreme right of his political party so he could either reconsider his bid to either run for the Senate in 2022, the Presidency in 2024 or be on some Republican Nominees short list for Vice President.

Leaving it up to the school districts, especially those in the more conservative reactionary areas of the state, to decide whether or not to mandate the wearing of masks is a mistake that may actually harm the very voters Ducey is counting on for support.

While the Coronavirus does not affect children at the level it does adults, this move is not worth risking one child or school personnel’s health or life.

Doug Ducey needs to think of the well-being of the people and not the value of his political stock with the extreme right.

What the hell is he thinking?

  1. Ice cream man is typical misogynist Republican male who wants to show how “tough” he is yet he is as stupid as stupid comes. His sidekick, Christ should lose her license to practice as she has been complicit going along with his repeated diabolical edicts. He cannot run again for governor but has his sight on being elected to Congress. Wish we could deport this racists pos.

  2. “It’s almost paradoxical that on the one hand they want to be relieved of the restrictions, but on the other hand they don’t want to get vaccinated. It just almost doesn’t make any sense.” — Dr. Anthony Fauci, discussing vaccine hesitant Republicans on CNN.

  3. Ducey and his ice cream store decisions have sickened and killed too many. No mask mandate for schools? Backstabbing Kathy Hoffman again. If anyone wonders why we have issues with gaining quality teachers and therapists and why so many school staff have retired or went to other careers, the fingers should be pointing at him. Just think, if we lose Ducey, the dumbing down of Arizonans will finally recover. No more tea.

  4. Gov Ducey needs to be taken out of office. He is always using his power to undermine people who doesn’t agree with him. Once again he is overstepping and letting everyone know he doesn’t care. I hope no one vote for him again for he doesn’t represent anyone but himself. He is stuck on stupid and folks need to stop being scared to speak out against him and his wrongdoing.
