Arizona Senator Mark Kelly is a real thorn in the side of MAGA world.
Earlier this year, Kelly was called a “traitor” by Trump puppet master Elon Musk because of his support for Ukraine in its war against Russia.
Coincidentally, Trump minion posing as diplomatic envoy Steve Witkoff came under fire last week by Democrats and Republicans for his 28 point peace plan to end the war on terms that mostly favored Russia.
Last week, Senator Kelly and five of his Congressional colleagues who are retired veterans came under Trumps social media wrath for posting a video that called on the military to disobey illegal orders from the American Duce Wannabe and his MAGA sycophants at the Pentagon like Pete ‘What did I have at the bar lately’ Hegseth.
In one of Donald Trump’s unhinged social media posts, he called for the hanging of all six Congressional members including Kelly.
Today, Hegseth, who is spending $2 billion on an illegal Back to the Past name change to rename the Defense Department the War Department, announced, via a social media post that the Pentagon is launching an unprecedented investigation of Senator Kelly for his remarks in the social media video, calling them “misconduct.”
In his post, Hegseth alluded that he would have liked to investigate the other five Congressional members but Kelly, according to reporting from the Washington Post, is the only one that “falls under the Uniform Code of Military Justice.”
Responding to Hegseth doing his master at the White House bidding on a day two of his political retribution quests crashed and burned when a Judge dismissed the charges against former F.B.I. Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James, Senator Kelly issued a statement that read:
“When I was 22 years old, I commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy and swore an oath to the Constitution. I upheld that oath through flight school, multiple deployments on the USS Midway, 39 combat missions in Operation Desert Storm, test pilot school, four space shuttle flights at NASA, and every day since I retired – which I did after my wife Gabby was shot in the head while serving her constituents.
“In combat, I had a missile blow up next to my jet and flew through anti-aircraft fire to drop bombs on enemy targets. At NASA, I launched on a rocket, commanded the space shuttle, and was part of the recovery mission that brought home the bodies of my astronaut classmates who died on Columbia. I did all of this in service to this country that I love and has given me so much.
“Secretary Hegseth’s tweet is the first I heard of this. I also saw the President’s posts saying I should be arrested, hanged, and put to death.
“If this is meant to intimidate me and other members of Congress from doing our jobs and holding this administration accountable, it won’t work. I’ve given too much to this country to be silenced by bullies who care more about their own power than protecting the Constitution.”
Arizona’s Leading Democrats come to Senator Kelly’s Defense.
Coming to Kelly’s defense, Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs posted on social media:
“Few Americans have given more to their country than @SenMarkKelly—a Navy combat veteran and astronaut. And few families have sacrificed more than Mark and @GabbyGiffords , who have shown extraordinary courage and service in the face of unimaginable adversity. President Trump should focus on delivering real results for Arizonans, like lowering the cost of living and creating jobs, rather than attacking his political opponents who have served our country with distinction.”
Speaking to CNN, Arizona’s other Senator and former veteran, Ruben Gallego, said:
“We are not going to be intimidated. This is just an act by a desperate and very cowardly man who’s trying to distract from everything that’s going wrong in his life and he’s trying to attack a patriot that has served his country honorably and still does...You (Hegseth) will never, ever, be half the man that Senator Kelly is. You sir are a coward and the fact that you are following this order from the President shows how big of a coward you are and I can’t wait until you no longer are the Secretary of Defense.”
Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes posted:
“Exploiting the Pentagon and our service members for political purposes is a clear sign of desperation. Any so-called “investigation” should be resoundingly condemned as a feeble attempt to distract from the real issues everyday Americans face.”
Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes wrote:
“Mark Kelly is a patriot and an outstanding public servant. He’s devoted his life to this country as a Navy combat pilot, as an astronaut, and as a U.S. Senator who works every day to strengthen our national security and protect Arizonans.”
Arizona Senate Democratic Leader Priya Sundareshan conveyed:
“I’m proud of my US Senator @CaptMarkKelly! Nothing he said was wrong in any way. He simply stated the facts: the oaths sworn are to the Constitution and laws of the United States, not to any person, and don’t extend to illegal orders.“
Representative Yassamin Ansari offered:
“Mark Kelly flew 39 combat missions, commanded space shuttle missions, and continues serving Arizona with honor. Donald Trump is now trying to silence him with fear and threats. It’s the same playbook he uses on anyone who stands up to him. It will not work.“
Representative Greg Stanton relayed:
“Senator Kelly is a combat veteran and a patriot. His message to the troops was not one of disobedience but of conscience — service members swear an oath to the U.S. Constitution, not to any one man. Trump is turning the Pentagon into a tool of political intimidation, while calling for the execution of sitting Members of Congress. These threats are the actions of an increasingly unstable authoritarian.”
Senator Kelly works to protect Americans from the Dangers of A.I.
It should be noted that while Mr. Trump and Mr. Hegseth are doing everything in their inept power to terrorize its citizens and make this nation unsafe, Senator Kelly, working in a bipartisan fashion with his colleagues, is working to advance the interests of the American People.
One issue he is working on is A.I.
While Mr. Trump is busy trying to do whatever the tech billionaire donor class wants by repealing Biden era guardrails and attempting to circumvent local and state efforts to regulate and safeguard the growth of A.I., Senator Kelly has introduced legislation along with Indiana Senator Todd Young called The Advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) Security Readiness Act that “would direct the National Security Agency (NSA) to develop and disseminate security guidance to protect America’s advanced technology from foreign adversaries.”
Kelly, who has authored an extensive plan called AI for America, that if fully implemented would “ensure this technology drives opportunity for all Americans by putting people, not machines, at the heart of innovation,” said in the joint statement:
“AI increasingly powers our defense, intelligence, critical infrastructure, scientific innovation, and much of our economy. If it’s vulnerable, we’re vulnerable. This bipartisan legislation gets the NSA prepared to spot attacks early and defend our country’s AI innovation from anyone trying to exploit it. As AI evolves, we need to stay ahead of the challenges it brings to keep Americans safe.”
Commenting on the legislation to Blog for Arizona, Third Way Director of Technology Policy Ruth Whittaker wrote:
“This is exactly the type of bill Congress should be focused on, rather than just stripping away state laws. This bipartisan effort to protect American AI systems from foreign threats is a great starting point for a national framework that needs to be in place before we can think about preempting state protections.”
Senator Kelly is not the only leader from Arizona working on the proliferation of A.I.
Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego, along with Mayors from around the globe, including Melbourne, Athens, Barcelona, Dubai, Johannesburg, Milan, Paris, Portland, and Hobart have, according to reporting from Axios, formed a partnership to seek sustainable “low carbon and water efficient” avenues to power A.I. data centers.
So while Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth reign like this country is in the 1920’s when leading law enforcement launched the first Red Scare and Laissez Faire economics was still mostly gospel, leaders like Mark Kelly are working to move this country forward, lift the nation’s citizens up, and protect everyone from Project 2025 supporters Fascist aspirations and corporate greed’s excesses and blind sightedness.
