Fresh off posting a meme online that showed the Obamas as apes, Donald Trump and his White Nationalist Zealots are attempting again to “whitewash” an episode of history by having the National Park Service omit the fact on its brochures that the assassin of Civil Rights activist Medgar Evers was a White Nationalist-Supremicist-Klansman-Racist.
George Orwell warned about authoritarian actions like this in both Animal Farm and 1984.
This is the latest attempt by Mr. Trump and his MAGA-Fascist-White Nationalist-Loyalists to erase or sanitize acts against the nation’s minorities or groups once deemed undesirable. They also want to minimize the historic struggles of these groups to achieve civil rights and legal equality.
In an article written by Jerry Mitchell of Mississippi Today, Alan Spears, senior director for cultural resources at the National Parks Conservation Association, said:
“You can talk about Martin Luther King Jr. overcoming. You just can’t talk about what he overcame…“It’s turning the assassination of Medgar Evers into something that is bloodless and had no impact. We can talk about him being a wonderful veteran, but not about what it cost him. He gave the last full measure of devotion, and now we want to ignore that.”
The article also reminded readers that Ever’s assassin, Byron De La Beckwith, was an openly proud white nationalist racist who did not hide his beliefs and was embraced by the white nationalist power brokers of the time.
Among the Beckwith quotes cited were:
- Telling voters during his 1967 campaign for Mississippi Lieutenant Governor that “he believed in “absolute white supremacy under white Christian rule.”
- On preserving Jim Crow in the South, he said, “the first ray of light Dixie had seen since we fought through Reconstruction and captured the right to vote, the right of white people to run the South.”
- On Blacks in the Bible, he said, “N—-s are beasts. It says so in here in the book of Adam.” He also said that non-white people were “mud people without souls.”
- On Medgar Evers, he called him a “mongrel” and said, “God hates mongrels.”
Never forget that Byron De La Beckwith was a white nationalist-racist pig who belonged to the Klan and openly flaunted his disgusting beliefs.
Do not let Donald Trump and his band of White Nationalists, History Deniers, and MAGA Revisionists erase that fact from any brochure, plaque, history book, or documentary.
America is about to celebrate its 250th Birthday.
Part of that celebration is honoring the fallen who braved to make the nation a better place and the adversity and evils these heroes faced and overcame.
