On Wednesday, March 2, 2022, the Phoenix City Council moved to enter into a development with the Phoenix Mayo Clinic for:
“…Installation of public infrastructure improvements, drainage and dedication of public right-of-way (ROW) or easements, and any other agreements as necessary (Agreements) for a mixed-use project to be located on approximately 228 acres south of Loop 101, east of 56th Street, west of 64th Street, and as described in the Arizona State Land Department (ASLD) Auction No. 53-122049 (Site).”
The Mayo Clinic is currently in the process, in partnership with Arizona State University, the City of Phoenix, and other organizations in developing a major science hub called Discovery Oasis.
The recent action by the Phoenix City Council is a great technological move forward for Phoenix, whose leaders (Mayor Kate Gallego and the other members of the Council) have worked hard to elevate the fifth largest city in the nation to a modern beacon in the advancement of life, computer, and sustainability sciences.

According to a recently released report by CBRE, Phoenix, from 2019 to 2020, is the largest growing area in the country in life sciences growth. The same report shows Phoenix as one of the major United States cities with the largest life science hubs in the country.
This move by the Phoenix City Council will only strengthen the city’s standing in the science community and bring in many high paying-high skilled jobs to Maricopa County.
Commenting on social media after the City Council meeting, Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego posted:
We are #1 in Life Science Job Growth, and in the Top 5 of the Nation’s Emerging Life Science Markets. Today’s investment in @MayoClinic campus will continue to accelerate interest from bioscience companies who want to be near the new Discovery Oasis. pic.twitter.com/UjnW039pK0
