A reader sent me the text of the Arizona Guardian article I mentioned this morning that says Huppenthal is collecting signatures for his run for Ed Supe. It's a fact. He's doing it.
He says that he does not intend to voluntarily resign from office.
"Filing the signatures makes you a candidate, not collecting them," he said.
Some have a different view than Huppenthal's.
"Nominating petitions circulating means you've actually made the decision (to run)," she said.
An elected official who violates the "resign to run" provision of state elections law is guilty of misfeasance and would have to leave office, according to the statute.
Add this suitcase filled with petitions to the excess baggage Huppenthal was already carrying into the election. He may have to do more than pay an excess weight surcharge. They just might kick him off the plane.
