You would think . . .

by David Safier

You would think a report stating 70% of the firearms picked up by authorities in Mexico originate in the U.S. would make the no-gun-laws crowd think maybe there should be a few restrictions on who can buy guns in the U.S. (That 70% figure, by the way, is from an article in Rupert Murdoch's Wall Street Journal.)

And you would think an Al Qaeda video advising potential terrorists to buy firearms at gun shows because "You can . . .  come away with a fully automatic assault rifle, without a background check" would make even the NRA hem and haw a little and admit, Yeah, maybe we should have the same kind of background checks at gun shows we have at gun shops.

Of course, if you think that, you think wrong. I guess the take-my-gun-from-my-cold-dead-hands crowd thinks arming Mexican drug cartels, would-be terrorists and a few more Jared Lee Loughners is a small price to pay for the right to buy any firearm you please without someone checking to see if you're a felon, on the No Fly List or seriously mentally ill.
