Yuma mayor attempts to add to Arizona’s embarrassment — and succeeds

Arizona is the gift to America that just keeps giving — if by gift, you mean making us look so ridiculous, the rest of the nation can feel better about itself by comparison.

Our latest embarrassment: Yuma's Mayor Al Krieger speaking at the Desert Lawn Cemetery on Memorial Day. He decided to honor our fallen soldiers by saying no gay soldier can compare to our brave dead.

I cannot believe that a bunch of lacy-drawered, limp-wristed people
could do what those men have done in the past.

No, I'm not kidding. Watch.

No apologies from Krieger when he was called on the quote. No sirree. He's proud of what he said, comparing his words to Washington's and Lincoln's.

I keep thinking, "What can Arizona possibly do for an encore?" And then someone like Krieger comes along and shows me we've got enough stupidity and bigotry in high places to keep this stuff coming for years.
