Is Doug Ducey the governor of Arizona, or Andy Tobin’s BFF?

By Craig McDermott, crossposted from Random Musings

Either that or we should change the name of the office of the governor to that of  protector of Andy Tobin’s Employment Security...

From KNXV-TV (Phoenix channel 15) (emphasis added) –

Former Arizona House Speaker Andy Tobin has been appointed to the Arizona Corporation Commission to fill the seat vacated by Susan Bitter Smith.

The appointment by Gov. Doug Ducey was announced Wednesday.

{snip}

Tobin is currently the director of the Arizona Department of Insurance and the interim director of the Arizona Department of Financial Institutions. He will leave both positions when he joins the Commission, said Ducey.

Before that, he was the director of the Arizona Department of Weights and Measures.

Mitch M. at Arizona’ Politics observes that Tobin will take a significant cut in pay when he takes the job on the ACC.

However, I will observe, that given the behavior of the ACC and its members, that we need not worry about Tobin.

Only his *official* pay will be cut.

  1. “… this happens in states where the Dems rule as well.”

Come on guys, let’s leave kindergartners logic out of this. “He did it too” is really a statement of last resort and unwittingly a concession to bad behavior.

  2. “One important pillar of conservative political dominance, I believe, is the phenomenon sometimes called ‘wingnut welfare’: loyalists are always assured of decent employment, no matter how badly they perform.” – Paul Krugman

    • AZ BlueMeanie, via Paul Krugman, is right, and to be fair this happens in states where the Dems rule as well. People seem to get “parked” between elections in some part time job with a full time check.

But in Arizona, it exposes the Party of Tea for the fraud they are, Russell Pearce is the proof. Egregious hypocrisy.

Years ago, the Small and Limited Government folks eliminated a position at the state treasury because they wanted to cut the budget, and they said it wasn’t needed.

Then when Pearce became unemployed, and probably unemployable given his public profile as a really bad person, they “re-created” the position just for him.

Russell Pearce, the guy who claims to care about my tax dollars so much it hurts him deep inside to see any waste, taking government welfare.

And Tobin on the ACC? Did anyone check for fox and henhouse analogies? There’s got to be one around here somewhere.
