More candidate petition challenges filed

gavelThree candidates have already withdrawn as candidates after legal challenges were filed to their petitions.

Johnnie Robinson, a Democrat running for Congress in CD 7, withdrew after his petitions were challenged.

Miguel Olivas, a Libertarian running for Congress in CD 3, withdrew after his petitions were challenged.

In a state legislative race, Patricia Flores, a Republican running for House in LD 3 withdrew after her petitions were challenged.

A petition challenge filed against Randy Camacho, a Democrat running for Congress in CD 7, reportedly failed according to The Arizona Republic.

And no surprise here, Republican Sott Fistler, who changed his name to Cesar Chavez to run for Cogress in CD 7 as a Democrat, faces a petition challenge from the grandson of labor leader and civil rights icon Cesar Chavez. Cesar Chavez faces lawsuit to kick him off ballot. You may recall that Fistler aka Chavez declared his candidacy to the Federal Elections Commission as a Democrat in February, but he did not change his party affiliation voter registration until April 28.

The Arizona Capitol Times reports Sen. Shooter alleges opponent forged nominating signatures: “Six people signed sworn affidavits stating they never signed Toby Farmer’s petition, though their names appear on two petition sheets. Shooter also alleges that other signatures are invalid because the signee does not live at the address listed on the petition sheet.”

Finally, the petition challenge to Rep. Ethan Orr (R-Tucson) goes to the Judge on June 18.

We still have until 5:00 p.m. today for petition challenges to be filed. Stay tuned.
