200+ seniors at Barber press conference

by David Safier

Last week the Star reported about a Jesse Kelly press conference with 30 seniors in attendance supporting their candidate. Today I did a carefully approximate count of the people at the Barber presser. About 150 seniors stood behind him (they keep on wrapping around the wall beyond what I show in the pic) and another 60 sat at tables in front.

That's about 7-to-1 in Barber's favor in terms of senior supporters at their events. I like the odds. The speeches were interrupted regularly with bursts of loud, enthusiastic applause.

Delivering an endorsement to Barber was Phillip Rotondi of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare (NCPSSM) who flew in for the event. You can read the endorsement letter here.

After Barber spoke, he took a question from every member of the press who had a question, then took a few questions from the audience. Kelly, according to what I heard, took two questions at his presser. Altogether a very good day for the Democratic candidate for the CD-8 congressional seat.
