24-Year-Old Woman Going Through a Health-Threatening Pregnancy is Receiving Barbaric Treatment at the Eloy Concentration Camp

Maria Alejandra Valero Brinez has become the latest example of the barbaric, inhumane treatment human beings are being subjected to at Arizona’s concentration camp/detention facility in Eloy.

Visiting the facility on October 22, along with Oregon Representative Maxine Dexter and Reproductive Freedom For All President Mini Timmaraju, the delegation emerged from their inspection demanding the release of Valero Brinez, because she is not receiving proper medical care for her five-month pregnancy, which is a difficult one because her placenta is attached to the lower part of her uterus, threatening the viability of the unborn child.

Ms. Valero Brinez has already lost one child because of this condition.

Since the intensification of Mr. Trump’s ICE/Gestapo raids and proliferation of privately run (by Trump fans/donors) and constructed detention facilities/concentration camps across Arizona and the nation, Representatives Ansari and Grijalva have continued to call out the harsh treatment of detainees they have encountered at the state’s detention facilities/concentration camps.

Arbella “Yari” Rodríguez Márquez is a detainee who Ansari and Grijalva warned last year was receiving horrible medical attention for her leukemia.

So was  Emmanuel Damas, a person who died from sepsis after ICE authorities let his toothache fester into a fatal condition.

Posting a social media video after the inspection, Representative Grijalva said:

“Yesterday, I visited the Eloy Detention Center here in Arizona with Congresswomen Ansari and Dexter, and what we heard from the women inside was deeply disturbing. I met Maria Alejandra Valero-Brines. She’s 24 years old, a mother to a six-year-old boy, and is five months pregnant.

Three years ago, she lost a baby because of low-lying placenta. Now she’s experiencing bleeding during her current pregnancy, and she told us that she had to throw herself on the ground and beg for medical attention. When she finally gets care, she says she doesn’t consistently get answers about her condition or her baby’s health.

She’s also struggling to get the extra food her doctor prescribed, access to drinking water, and proper medical care. She even says she wasn’t given antibiotics after a dental infection led to a tooth being pulled. She’s terrified for her baby’s health, and she’s not getting the answers she needs.

No woman should have to fear for her life or her baby’s life while in government custody. That’s why I’m calling for Maria’s immediate release.”

In her post-visit report to her social media followers, Representative Ansari relayed:

“…We went to the Eloy detention center with two of my incredible colleagues, Maxine Dexter from Oregon, as well as Adelita Grijalva from Southern Arizona, and we partnered with Reproductive Freedom for All to focus on the issue of what reproductive health care is like inside an ICE detention center, and it’s awful. So as you all know, there’s severe medical neglect happening inside these ICE detention centers.

I’ve talked at length about my constituent Yari, who has leukemia, who has not been able to access proper medical care, and has been through hell. More than 60 people have died in ICE custody because the medical neglect is so severe, but what we heard Wednesday terrified me on a different level. We met with a 24-year-old woman named Maria Alejandra Valero Brinez, and she is five months pregnant with a high-risk pregnancy, and in the past, she actually had a stillbirth because of a low-lying placenta at eight months pregnant.

So she is a very, very high-risk pregnancy. She should not be in detention whatsoever, but of course, when we got to talk to her, she described the lack of care that she’s getting, the lack of prenatal support that she’s getting, the fact that when they send her off-site to talk to a gynecologist, the gynecologist isn’t even allowed to give her the information about what she’s examining. This is exactly what they do to Yari.

Yari goes to see an oncologist, and she has to go through these crazy bureaucratic hoops to even get her medical reports. It’s insane. That’s what’s happening to Maria.

Maria also described that she has been in so much pain, she’s been bleeding, and sometimes what it takes for them to do anything about it at this Core Civic Facility is she has to like fall to the ground and cry and just like, you know, they have to see her in this excruciating pain in order to believe her and to do anything about it. They’ll give her one ibuprofen at a time. Again, they will send her off-site and not do anything.

Something that struck me was that she said that if you cry, if they, you know, ask if you’re depressed, which anyone would be depressed in this place because they do anything to physically and psychologically torture you, it’s worse than a prison, then they put you in solitary confinement because then they say, you know, you could be at risk of suicide. So instead of giving you the care that you need or the mental health care that you need, they make it worse by putting you in solitary confinement. This company that runs this place is evil.

Core Civic is making billions of dollars off of our taxpayer dollars to house, if you can call it that, tens of thousands of people and they cannot even provide the basics for people. Maria confirmed for us, there’s no clean drinking water at Eloy. They put those igloo coolers, they put ice in there, there’s often mosquitoes in there, there’s worms in there, it’s disgusting.

That is the access to the water that they get. If they want clean drinking water, they have to go to the commissary and they have to pay two dollars to get one bottle of drinking water and guess how much money you make if you work on site because they can also make you work to make extra money and they pay you like a dollar or two dollars a day. It is modern day slavery inside these modern day concentration camps.

So it’s horrific. I’m really glad that Maxine Dexter was with us. She is a physician.

She made it very clear that with a high risk pregnancy like that, it is not only dangerous for the baby, it is dangerous for the mother. So it’s extremely dangerous for Maria. If you’re not getting proper care, if you’re at risk of another stillbirth, if you’re at risk at all, you could be bleeding and bleeding and bleeding.

I mean, this is very dangerous. She should not be there at all. So we are all now in unity calling for Maria’s release from detention immediately.

We need people to sound the alarm about her case and call on ICE, call on Donald Trump, call on this corrupt administration to release Maria immediately. She should not be there.”

This barbaric treatment of human beings in these facilities is a moral stain on the country and must stop.

The Donald Trump kindred spirits and corporate donors who are running them and profiting off these people’s misery and deaths, as well as the officials and staffs running the day to day operations at these concentration camps need to be aware of one thing.

Your Duce in the Oval Office and his political allies (like Andy Biggs and Juan Ciscomani) will not be there forever.

Trump will not pardon all of you, especially the staff members whose names he does not even know and whose corporate employers will throw under the judicial bus when they feign ignorance of the barbaric treatment being done under their noses while they hide their financial windfall from these concentration camps in offshore accounts and stay out of jail by fingering you for all the evils done there.

It is time for these people to regain any humanity they once had and start treating these people like the precious human beings they are.

It is time to release all the non-violent detainees who do not pose any threat to their local communities.

Remember, almost 71 percent of the people being detained in these concentration camps have no criminal convictions, and those who have convictions are for minor offenses like traffic violations.

Even the conservative Cato Institute backs that up.

It is time to end Mr. Trump’s Long-Termist-Eugenic Final Solution on America’s non-white populations and close America’s Concentration Camps

  1. Glad to see people are finally calling out these facilities for what they really are: concentration camps. In 1941, Americans of Japanese descent were herded into “relocation camps” when, in reality, the only difference from Nazi concentration camps was the lack of ovens. Instead, the prisoners baked in places like Manzanar, CA or Poston, AZ or froze at Tule Lake, CA.
My Dad fought Nazis in WWII. (442nd RCT, Go For Broke)
My Uncle was wounded by Commies at Chosin Reservoir. (USMC)
I got free bone spurs at Da Nang, my Dad didn’t have to pay off a quack. (USAF)
Now, it’s time for all Americans to fight nazi, commie fascists on American soil.

    • The internment camps were awful, not to mention being unconstitutional, but there’s no comparison between those and the Nazi concentration/extermination camps where prisoners were either immediately gassed upon arrival or worked to death. In their seething hatred of non-white immigrants the latter are what our traitor-in-chief and his grotesque would love to see happen and are happily working toward.

  2. One can only hope the mindless barbarians who perpetrate these horrors; from the guards and medical staff to the executives are held accountable for their inhumanity. Wasn’t there a war crimes trial of medical professionals who worked the Nazi extermination camps?
