Giffords to speak at first annual African American Democratic Caucus reception Saturday

David Safier

by David Safier

Regrettably, prior commitments mean I won't be able to attend this event, but that doesn't stop others from going. It sounds like one of those minor/major (take your pick) historic events for Tucson. It's the first of what promises to be an annual event.

The first annual Reception for the Pima County Democratic African American Caucus will be held at Pima Dem headquarters (4639 E. First Street, near Speedway and Swan) this Saturday, January 16, 5pm. According to the press release, the event is "open to ALL Democrats who want to move Arizona forward."

Rep. Giffords will address the group, and lots of other notables will be there.

Public officials expected to attend this event include Arizona Corporation Commissioner Sandra Kennedy, Tucson City Council Members Richard Fimbres and Shirley Scott, Florence City Council Member Vallarie Woolridge and Affirmative Action Moderator for the Arizona Democratic Party Gerald Richard, who will be delivering the keynote address.

When money, not merit, determines who get the college degrees from the top schools, mediocrity and increased … Read more

Tucson elections case goes to trial January 19

AZ BlueMeanie

Posted by AzBlueMeanie: Last year Sen. Jonathan Paton (R-LD 30), the wannabe dictator of Tucson, shepherded a special bill through the Arizona Legislature designed to punish the "liberal bastion" of Tucson by using state law to override the Tucson City Charter and dictating to Tucson that its elections engage in the fiction of being nonpartisan, … Read more

Was California’s Prop 8 election stolen?

David Safier

by David Safier Election integrity issues have quieted down, at least for now, in Arizona. Whatever the truth about the RTA vote controversy, the counting of the ballots has taken the wind out of the media sails of those who think the election was stolen. The RTA vote question, which got quite a bit of … Read more
