‘What’s the difference between Sarah Palin and Paul Ryan? Lipstick’

EddieMunsterForget the bobblehead media villagers on the '"tee-vee" whose debate analysis focuses exclusively on optics and body language and presentation — because they are all just highly paid actors. They wouldn't know substantive policy arguments if they bit them in the ass, let alone be able to assess who is stating the facts, and who is just full-o-crap.

In reading through debate analysis from real journalists today, I discovered this gem from Charles Pierce at Esquire that is the best take down evah! VP Debate 2012: The Real Paul Ryan Is Bad for America:

For the second time in as many presidential elections, Joseph Biden got to debate a young, attractive Republican candidate who was demonstrably less qualified to to be president than I am to be chairman of the World Bank. Joseph Biden is a very lucky man. The Great Political Matchmaker in the Sky keeps handing him people who are trying — and failing — to fight above their weight class, and he keeps blowing through what can now legitimately be called the Bum of the Quadrennium Club.

There is a deeply held Beltway myth of Paul Ryan, Man of Big Ideas, and it dies hard. But, if there is a just god in the universe, on Thursday night, it died a bloody death, was hurled into a pit, doused with quicklime, buried without ceremony, and the ground above it salted and strewn with garlic so that it never rises again. On foreign policy, Ryan occasionally rose, gasping, to the level of obvious neophyte. (He was more lost in Afghanistan than the Russian army ever was.) On domestic policy, his alleged wheelhouse, he was vague, untruthful, and he walked right into a haymaker he should have seen coming from a mile off, when he started bloviating about Biden's role in the "failed" stimulus program, only to have Biden slap him around with Ryan's own requests for stimulus money for his home district back in Wisconsin. He also made it quite clear that a Romney-Ryan White House will do everything it can to eliminate a woman's right to choose. This should make for some fine television commercials over the next few weeks.

Fact Checking the mendacity of ‘Mittens’

Posted by AzBlueMeanie: Time once again for Steve Benen's weekly fact check of the shameless shapeshifter and pathological liar, Willard "Mittens" Romney. Chronicling Mitt's Mendacity, Vol. XXXVIII: The broader concerns about Mitt Romney's comfort with dishonesty reached a milestone this week — it got The Onion treatment. (Remember, this is satire. Give ’em Hell Joe exposes Lyin’ Ryan, the media villagers cry

During a speech a supporter yelled out "Give 'em Hell, Harry!," to which President Truman replied, "I don't give them Hell. I just tell the truth about them and they think it's Hell."

I have written at length about how this election is the first time in American history that a political party is fully invested in a Big Lie propaganda campaign. The "Galt – Gekko 2012" campaign has said that we are going to lie to you and we are daring the media to call us liars, but we will continue our "big lie" propaganda because if you repeat a lie often enough, it becomes the truth for many low information voters. The audacity of this strategy is breathtaking, and if rewarded by voters, poses a serious threat to the continuing survival of our democracy.

So how does one deal with an opponent in a debate who is invested in "big lie" propaganda? One is forced to point out that his opponent is lying, through words and mannerisms that his opponent is lying.

This is what President Obama resisted doing during his debate with the shameless shapeshifter and pathological liar, Willard "Mittens" Romney. Obama later explained that he thought pointing out that Romney was lying would be "too repetitive." He has resisted calling Romney a "liar." Romney has worn out whole teams of fact checkers with his lies in the hope that they will simply give up out of sheer exhaustion. Obama cannot afford to do this, he must point out that Romney is lying each time he does it and be willing to call him a "liar" to his face.

Vice President Joe Biden did his job last night in his debate with Rep. Paul Ryan. Through his words and mannerisms, Give 'em Hell Joe exposed Lyin' Ryan for the liar and con man that he is.

Carmona video debunks Flake’s false attack

David Safier

by David Safier

As AZ Blue Meanie posted earlier, Flake has an ad up about a long-ago-bebunked claim from a woman who was a Bush administration hack trying to put Bush spin into government-based health information. She claims Carmona banged on her door at home, a claim that was never substantiated. Carmona put out a statement against the attack, complete with links to relevant articles in the NY Times and the Washington Post (You can find it in Meanie's post).

Now Carmona has a video featuring Captain Kathleen Brennan, a former SWAT Commander, vouching for Carmona, calling him "a joy to work with" and someone who "treats everyone with respect." So who you gonna believe, a SWAT Commander or some lyin' Bush lackey?
