A National Day of Reason

Today is the first Thursday in May and you know what that means: by Congressional decree, today is the official "National Day of Prayer."

Charlotte, NC Mayor Anthony Foxx, whom President Obama recently nominated to be his new Secretary of Transportation, President Obama Nominates Anthony Foxx as Secretary of Transportation, as Mayor of Charlotte, has issued a proclamation saying that Thursday is a “Day of Reason,”
lending his name for the second consecutive year to a movement that
emphasizes the separation of church and state. Foxx proclaims 'Day of Reason,' 'Day of Prayer':

The American Humanist Association, a co-sponsor of the day, said on its website, that, “with the religious right’s influence in Congress, and with the threat to our Judiciary looming large, there has never been as important a moment in which to affirm our commitment to the Constitutional separation of religion and government, and to celebrate Reason as the guiding principle of our secular democracy.”

Foxx, a Democrat, also issued a proclamation saying that Thursday is also a “National Day of Prayer.” That is a congressional-sponsored day that encourages people of all religions and faiths to pray for the country.

Foxx attends the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Charlotte.

The website for the National Day of Reason lists some public officials who have endorsed the event in the past. They include the New Orleans City Council and Neb. Gov. Dave Heineman.

A National Day of Reason is a great way to honor the Founding Fathers and the creation of the Constitution and the United States of America, which are the product of the genius of the Age of Reason and the Enlightenment (generally dated 1687-1789).
