A plea to help save Tucson Access TV

by David Safier

Friend of the blog Steve Gall, whose laudable work building the state's awareness of the importance of recess in schools has received positive press lately, is concerned about the fate of Tucson Access TV. Here is what he has to say:

Because of the budget crisis, the Tucson City Council has proposed a 60% cut in all outside agencies which would effectively close down Tucson Access TV.  The vote was 4-2 in favor of the cuts with Regina Romero not voting because of her baby delivery.  Access TV, or public television, has been a wonderful Tucson asset for public education and entertainment for over 25 years. They have even volunteered to film one of my recess classes at the Dunham Elementary School.  On Tuesday, they will vote on the final bill.  Please call the city council members, especially Shirley Scott, 791-3199, Rodney Glassman, 791-4687 and Mayor Bob Walkup, 791-4201 and tell them to keep Access TV in Tucson.  Thank you
