Ahead of the Vice President’s speech in Raleigh, North Carolina later today on some of her economic proposals, the Harris for President Campaign issued a press release previewing details of several of the progressive policies a Harris/Walz Administration would pursue to help move the country forward and lift the American People up.
The theme of these proposals centers around reducing costs and financial hardships for Americans.
Many of these ideas have either been proposed or enacted during the Biden/Harris Administration and the Vice President is calling for securing, restoring, or expanding them.
In the press release, the team for the Harris for President Campaign wrote:
“Today, Vice President Kamala Harris is announcing several proposals for her first 100 days in office to bring down costs for American families. The steps announced today will cut taxes for the middle class, reduce grocery costs, take on price gouging, lower the costs of owning and renting a home, continue to bring down the costs of prescription drugs, and relieve medical debt for millions of Americans. These bold actions will address some of the sharpest pain points American families are confronting and bolster their financial security…Vice President Harris has made clear that building up the middle class will be a defining goal of her presidency. She will deliver for Americans who are demanding a new way forward towards a future that lifts up all Americans so that they can not just get by, but get ahead.”
Among the proposals are:
- “Building the American Dream” by making it less cumbersome to buy or rent a home. Among the proposals the Vice President will share today are “calling for the construction of three million new starter homes, a tax incentive for building starter homes, expanding building rental home tax incentives, cutting red tape and bureaucracy, a new $40 billion federal fund to spur innovative housing construction, and a $25,000 tax credit for eligible first time homebuyers.”
- Cracking down on the price fixing from corporate and Wall Street Investor landlords. Furthermore, a Harris/Walz Administration would go after price gouging on food and groceries and launch investigations into “greedflation,” the explosion of corporate greed accruing mass profits at the expense of the consumer.
- “Lowering the costs of Prescription Drugs and Medical Debt Relief.” Yesterday, President Biden and Vice President Harris held a joint event in Maryland touting the ability of Medicare to now negotiate better drug prices for ten medications to benefit financially strapped seniors.
- Restoring the child tax credit of $3,600. Republicans have put up a consistent road block in thwarting this.
- Creating a new child tax credit for new borns up to one year old of $6,000.
- Expanding the Earned Income Tax Credit by $1500.
- Providing further tax incentives to enroll in the Affordable Care/Obamacare Marketplaces.
Donald Trump is only promising more tax cuts for the rich and wealthy corporations, the people and businesses that do not need it.
At the end of the press release, the campaign team wrote:
“Vice President Harris and Governor Walz will work with businesses, entrepreneurs, workers, and all stakeholders to drive an economy that creates opportunity and ensures stability and security for everyone. They believe competition is the lifeblood of our economy, and they will build the confidence and certainty that helps businesses innovate and grow. They will also fulfill their commitment to fiscal responsibility, including by asking the wealthiest Americans and largest corporations to pay their fair share—steps that will allow us to make necessary investments in the middle class, while also reducing the deficit and strengthening our fiscal health. Trump added a record amount to the national debt during his term, and now he and Vance are running to exact political retribution, attack the rule of law, undermine the independence of the Federal Reserve and other regulators, uproot these investments, disrupt global markets, and leave American communities behind.”
