A Heritage Foundation "Bloggers Briefing" broadcast online on "Breibart TV" begged conservative bloggers to write in defense of ALEC. The problem, according to the speakers, is ALEC hasn't gotten much press over its 35 years, so the progressive push against the organization has happened without much response.
ALEC, of course, created this media blackout by design. It's best to work in the shadows when you're wining and dining conservative state legislators at conventions paid for by big time corporate donors, then sending them back to their legislatures to pass ready-made bills. No one outside of a small circle of friends was ever supposed to know what went on behind those closed doors and that password-protected website.
But now, the media glare is hurting them. Blue Cross Blue Shield is the latest corporation to pull the plug on its corporate funding of ALEC. So they're begging their allies in the blogosphere for help.
"We're getting absolutely killed in social media venues — Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest (I didn't even know Pinterest was a forum for a lot of political opposition, but now it is) — so any and all new media support you guys can provide would be so helpful, not just to us but to average people who don't know much about this fight but are seeing us get really heavily attacked with very little opposition."
