Arizona Democratic House Congressional Candidates Condemn Big and Ugly MAGA Budget that Robs from the Poor and Gives to the Rich

Arizona Democratic House Congressional District (CD)Candidates were quick to follow Grand Canyon State House incumbents Yassamin Ansari and Greg Stanton in condemning the Big and Ugly MAGA Budget, and those Arizona Republicans in swing districts that supported it, that robs from the poor by taking money away from programs like Medicaid, Medicare, SNAP, Head Start, and Clean Energy and gives increased and unneeded tax cuts to the wealthy including new ones like taking public monies so the rich can pay for their children’s private school education.

Arizona CD One House Candidate Marlene Galán-Woods issued a press release where she stated:

David Schweikert has proven time and time again that he’d rather throw Arizonans under the bus than stand up to Trump and his party bosses. This time, he couldn’t even be bothered to do his job and show up to vote, but has made it clear he supports this cruel bill. This budget would kick millions of people from their health insurance and literally take food out of children’s mouths, all in favor of putting more money in the pockets of billionaires.
Schweikert is an unmitigated coward whose support of this budget is exceptionally hypocritical, especially from a self-proclaimed deficit hawk. In Congress, I will fight tirelessly to lower costs and always put our working Arizonans first.”

In her own press release, Arizona CD Six Candidate JoAnna Mendoza wrote:

Juan Ciscomani has once again left Arizona behind – rubber-stamping a $3.8 trillion increase in the deficit all to slash Medicaid and food assistance that more than 170,000 of his constituents rely on. This vote targets working families, seniors, children, people with disabilities, and rural hospitals already stretched to the brink. It guts the very programs Arizona families count on while giving tax breaks to billionaires.

Ciscomani has proven that he has no spine, no courage, and sure as hell no respect for our working families. Signing letters might make Juan feel good, but his vote proves he will always put party bosses ahead of Arizonans.”

The vote comes just weeks after Ciscomani claimed that “balancing the federal budget must not come at the expense of those who depend on these benefits for their health and economic security.”

“He thinks we won’t notice. He thinks we’ll forget. Let this be the last time we let him lie to us”.

Repeating an earlier comment to Blog for Arizona, Arizona CD Seven Candidate Deja Foxx said on the cruel MAGA budget that helps the rich on the backs of the poor:

“I’m uninsured, I’m a Planned Parenthood patient, and I’m running for Congress.

House Republicans are moving forward a budget that would:

  • Defund Planned Parenthood.
  • Steal $880 billion from Medicaid.
  • Leave at least 13.7 million people without care

For me, these cuts are more than talking points. I’ve lived them, fought against them, and know their consequences.”

Fellow CD Seven Candidate Adelita Grijalva issued a press release that read:

Trump’s big ugly bill is a historic betrayal of the middle class. It proves the Republican party is full of nothing but big lies and broken promises. They promised to help to lower costs and to help working families but their big priority bill does the exact opposite. It cuts health care, food and housing programs, public education, research – essentially every program that pulls Americans out of poverty in order to give a $5 trillion tax cut to their billionaire buddies.

Instead of lowering costs for child care or housing the bill funds the inhumane deportation machine and a wasteful border wall. Vital public education funds are funneled to a $20 billion private voucher scheme. And America’s chance to be a leader on renewable energy is ruined as this bill will leave our country dirtier and more vulnerable to growing climate disasters.

Republicans are showing their true colors, and every American should pay close attention. They do not stand with seniors. They do not stand with rural communities. They do not stand for bettering our country or lowering costs. They only stand for lining their own pockets,”

CD Seven Candidate Daniel Hernandez commented to Blog for Arizona:

The MAGA Republican budget gives tax breaks to the rich while letting kids starve, leaving millions without health care, and cutting access to higher education for students. Despite Republicans touting to save money — this bill actually grows the federal deficit. Growing up, my family relied on public assistance to get food on the table and keep our family healthy. When in Congress, I will do everything I can to fight the impacts of this bill.”
