Arizona Democratic Leaders React to ICE Shooting in Minnesota

From Arizona House Democrats

Renee Nicole Macklin Good

That is the name of the victim of the shooting by an ICE agent yesterday in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

According to the Associated Press, she described herself as a “poet and writer and wife and mom.”

Not a domestic terrorist, as Homeland Insecurity Secretary Kristi Noem and her Duce master Donald Trump would have everyone believe with their lying renditions of what happened on that street.

Mrs. Macklin Good, thanks to ICE-Gestapo-like brutality and stupidity, is now a martyr to the cause of conveying all the things wrong with Donald Trump, Kristi Noem, Tom Hohman, and Stephen Miller’s anti-immigrant and white nationalist agenda that comes complete with domestic concentration camps, mass deportations to third-party countries, due process avoidance, and murder.

Protests in Minnesota and in communities across the country, such as Phoenix, have been predominantly peaceful.

Reaction to the shooting is streaming in from Arizona’s Democratic leaders.

Liliana Soto, Press Secretary to Governor Katie Hobbs, commented in a statement to Blog for Arizona that mainly addressed reports that ICE was planning to ramp up operations in Phoenix:

“The Governor’s Office has contacted the federal government to get more information. Governor Hobbs remains clear: Arizona is focused on fighting crime, getting drugs from our streets, and securing the border. She supports law enforcement that prioritizes public safety over political stunts designed to create chaos or instill fear, and rejects policies that chase deportation quotas at the expense of stopping drug smuggling and human trafficking.

Arizona will not participate in indiscriminately rounding up individuals, violating civil rights, or enforcement activities that harm our communities. If this administration increases activity here, we encourage them to align with our focus and fulfill President Trump’s promise to get drug dealers and criminals off the street.”

Arizona Senate Democrats released a statement that read:

“We are horrified and deeply saddened by the killing of a 37-year-old woman by an ICE agent in Minneapolis. The disturbing footage underscores the danger of conducting aggressive, militarized enforcement actions in our neighborhoods.

Despite claims by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that the shooting was an act of self-defense, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, after reviewing the video, disputed that version of events.

This tragedy is a devastating example of the fear and instability caused by the Trump administration’s mass deportation agenda. These operations are not about public safety, they are about intimidation and political extremism, and now they have taken an innocent life, which, in turn, has left a six-year-old child parentless.

This community is left traumatized, and a family is now grieving because ICE agents, acting under Trump administration directives, exceeded their legal authority and violated DHS policy. The investigation into this woman’s death demands full transparency, accountability, and independence.

As ICE prepares to intensify enforcement actions in Arizona, we want our communities to know this: Arizona Senate Democrats will stand with you. We will work to protect our constituents and hold federal agencies accountable when their actions endanger lives and public safety.

Let us be clear, immigrants are not a threat. They are our neighbors, our coworkers, and essential contributors to Arizona’s economy and communities. We stand with Minneapolis and with families across the country who are living in fear of enforcement tactics that prioritize cruelty over humanity.”

Arizona House Democrats posted:

Arizona House Democratic Leader Nancy Guiterrez posted on Instagram:

“ICE murdered a woman in broad daylight today. Do not be fooled by the lies of the Trump administration. Watch the video yourself. It was murder. ICE are state supported terrorists. Congress MUST act NOT! We need them to pull out every single rule and shenanigan they can to stop Trump.”

Arizona Democratic Party Chairperson Charlene Fernandez wrote in an official statement:

“Renee Nicole Good should be alive today. Instead, a mother was killed because the Trump administration has embraced cruelty and chaos over the rule of law. When I.C.E. is pushed to escalate rather than protect, Americans pay the price. We demand answers, accountability, and an end to policies that put innocent lives in danger.”

State Representative Consuelo Hernandez posted a video on Instagram, asking viewers not to “give up on Democracy and show kindness,” despite this being “a dark day,” writing:

“Horrified and feel a gut punch after watching the video of the ICE agent shooting a woman in the face and killing her in broad daylight. Such a dark day for our country and just ask you to stay engaged, show up, get involved. We are better than this. I feel this. I’m with you.”
