Since the MAGA friendly Justice Department issued an opinion two weeks ago, giving Felon and Liar in Chief Donald Trump the green light to revoke the national monument status of millions of acres of currently public lands and freeing them up for private corporation mining exploitation, pollution, potential environmental contamination, and probable financial rewards for Mr. Trump and his family, Arizona’s leading Democrats have voiced their displeasure and fear about what could result from this latest Republican attempt to turn back the clock to the Gilded Age.
Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs issued a post that read:
Senator Mark Kelly wrote one social media:
“There’s a terrible idea packed into Republicans’ big crappy bill: Selling off millions of acres of public lands for big corporations to buy. No one wants this.”
On his personal social media site, Senator Ruben Gallego posted:
Representative Greg Stanton wrote on social media:
“Arizona’s public lands are unmatched—deserts, forests, mountains, canyons.
They belong to all of us.
But Republicans want to sell them off to private buyers to fund tax breaks for Trump’s billionaire buddies.
We can’t let that happen.”
Responding to Governor Hobbs’s post, Democratic House Leader Oscar De Los Santos conveyed “Common good over corporate greed. Say no to privatization for corporations.”
State Senate Democratic Leader Priya Sundareshan posted:
“Our national treasures should not be for sale. But Republicans want to let their wealthy friends remove our access to these lands.”
