While Donald Trump and his MAGA Republican supporters spend this Labor Day Holiday weekend screwing the American Worker by increasing prices for the average person through their costly tariffs and building on the disastrous rob from the poor and give to the rich social net purging and job killing policies in their Big Billionaire Bill by removing minimum wage protections for child and home care providers along with stripping safety standards from mining and construction workers that supported his 2024 candidacy because he lied a good game about reducing prices with wording that appealed to their perspectives, Democrats are actually honoring workers by continuing their embracing of policies that benefit the people that built this country: the working and middle class.
Among the postings by Arizona Democrats on this Labor Day are:
Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes:
“America was built on the backs of labor. Today we honor the American worker and the unions who continue to fight for their rights. Their sacrifices and determination have shaped the strength and resilience that define our country. Happy Labor Day!”
Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes posted:
“Every worker in Arizona has a strong advocate in the Attorney General’s Office. We recognize that the true strength of our state lies in its hardworking individuals—teachers, tradespeople, farmworkers, and countless others who are driving our economy forward. Happy Labor Day!”
Arizona Representative Yassamin Ansari relayed:
“On #LaborDay, we honor the achievements of workers in Arizona and throughout the country. Together, we celebrate the progress that organized labor has made in strengthening America’s middle class and helping our communities become stronger, fairer, and more prosperous.“
Representative Greg Stanton wrote:
“Today we celebrate the workers who built this country and the unions that continue to fight for them today. I’m proud to stand with them as we fight to keep the American Dream alive and accessible — for this and future generations. Happy Labor Day, Arizona!”
Senator Mark Kelly offered:
“Happy Labor Day, Arizona! As the son of two union members, I saw firsthand how they protect families. Unions continue to fight every day for Arizona workers’ futures. Today, we celebrate their work. Tomorrow, we keep fighting to protect them from Trump’s efforts to undermine unions.”
Senator Ruben Gallego conveyed:
“This country was built by the men and women who get up every morning, work hard, and keep our country moving forward. America is only as strong as our working class.”
In a separate press release, the Junior Arizona Senator stated:
“American workers deserve good wages, good benefits, and safe working conditions. But too often, big corporations and billionaire CEOs retaliate against workers who fight for them—and they do it without consequences. I’m proudly backing the PRO Act to protect workers’ right to organize and to hold bad actors accountable when they break labor laws.”
Arizona House Democrats Mariana Sandoval and Cesar Aguilar, the wife and son of union workers, posted the below social media video celebrating laborers, the hard work of union members and their contribution to the nation’s social safety net, and the threat to workers rights by the Trump Gilded Age regime.
In their presentation, Representative Aguilar said:
“We know that unions built the American Middle Class, but that is becoming harder to reach under the Trump Administration. With vegetable tariffs to Mexico increasing our grocery bills to iron tariffs to Canada, making it harder for construction workers to keep their jobs. We stand united with our union brothers and sisters, the champions of the benefits and workplace rights we cherish today. Thank you organized labor for the 40-hour work week, the eight hour work day, weekends and the end of child labor. Their efforts have secured Social Security and health insurance for millions.”
Representative Sandoval continued:
“However, these achievements are under attack. Union busting efforts that started with Reagan have increased dramatically with the current Republican Administration. Collective bargaining, the National Labor Relations Board, and the threats to unionized federal workers are just some of the attacks we have seen. This Administration has also halted funding for various Inflation Reduction Act clean energy projects. This has resulted in a 30 reduction in union work for my husband’s union and 50 reduction for the Iron Workers Union. We must take a stand. Democrats will continue fighting for fair wages, good benefits, safe workplace in the right to collective bargaining This Labor Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to the folks that have built the American Middle Class: Union workers…“
Moving forward, Democrats need to move forward, continually reminding working and middle class voters that they and their party, unlike the Trump-MAGA cult that talk a good game and then (surprise, surprise) backstab the worker after they get elected, are their true champions.
They need to remind them of all the New Deal, Fair Deal, Great Society, War on Poverty, Clinton, Obama, and Biden policies that have been fought for and enacted over close to the last century that have made workers lives better and built the Middle Class.
They also need to articulate a vision, one that relates to the people who wrongly or rightly feel Democrats have lost their way, that promises that the party will work 24 hours a day and seven days a week to expand the Middle Class and lift people up with enacting legislation that will:
- Increase the Minimum Wage and make it a living one.
- Expand Health and Retirement Security and start the transition to Medicare for All.
- Provide affordable housing and rental assistance.
- Pass paid family and sick leave.
- Fully fund public education and ensure that all families have access to quality and affordable childcare, preschool, full day kindergarten, and the first two years of college including apprenticeship programs.
- Create opportunities for projects that promote high paying and benefits for blue and green collar workers.
- Prosecutes the price gougers who are unjustly raising prices on the American Consumer.
- Repeal all the bad parts of Trump’s Big Billionaire Bill.
- Reduce the deficit.
- Protect and Expand Voting Rights.
- Increase the numbers of the membership on the Supreme Court from nine to thirteen members.
- Support Public Safety and the honest police who do their jobs. Support gun control efforts that protect children and the most vulnerable.
- Support Comprehensive Immigration Reform that provides a pathway to citizenship, invests in the immigration court and asylum process, secures the borders properly, and deports or imprisons violent criminals.
That is a winning message all Democrats should embrace to show the workers and middle class that they, as always, are on their side.
