Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission meeting Wednesday – Phoenix

The Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission could use a better managed web site. Like maybe posting meeting notices and agendas on the web site well in advance of scheduled meetings to encourage public participation and testimony. It's almost as if the Commission doesn't want the public to know when they are meeting, or at least limit notice to a select few. I'm just saying. (You can sign up for e-mail notices of meetings at http://www.azredistricting.org/Meeting-Info/default.asp).

In any event, the AIRC is meeting this Wednesday, June 29 at Noon, in the State Library Conference Room, Suite 200, Historic Capitol 1938 Edition, 1700 W. Washington Street, Phoenix. See http://www.azredistricting.org/docs/Meeting-Info/Agenda-062911.pdf.

On the Agenda: Discussion and consideration of confidential documents associated with the evaluation of responses to the mapping consultant request for proposal (RFP) and a review and ranking of submitted proposals after consideration of interviews.

For more information about the RFP interviews last Friday and a preview of Wednesday's meeting, see Steve Muratore's blog posts at The Arizona Eagletarian http://stevemuratore.blogspot.com/. Steve provides the detailed reporting that the Arizona media miserably fails to provide. Maybe an enterprising reporter will look into the mysterious "Fair Trust" that does not seem to be registered with the Arizona Secretary of State. Steve explains it all for you.

Also on the Agenda: Discussion and possible action on presentation by the Arizona Competitive District Coalition (Ken Clark); presentation by staff, discussion and possible action concerning logistics for first round of public hearings, timeline and preliminary discussion of second round of public hearings; discussion and possible action on the process for receiving public input such as maps, e-mail and other submittals; Agenda items and dates of future meetings; and a call to the audience for public comment (please limit your comments to items specifically identifed on the Agenda).
