Arizona is on fire and YOU want to buy fireworks? Grow up!

Posted by AzBlueMeanie:

During the month of June 2011, Arizona has suffered its worst fires in history. Each year is more historic than the last. And yet the idiots in the Arizona legislature and our idiot governor authorized the sale of fireworks in Arizona in 2010. That move was opposed by every professional fire fighter and fire safety organization in Arizona. The fireworks lobbyists won.

The gimmick in the law is that vendors are permitted to sell fireworks, but local jurisdictions are permited to enact bans on the use of fireworks in response to fire conditions. This year, almost every governmental jurisdiction in Arizona has banned the use of fireworks for the July 4th holiday in response to the extreme fire conditions we have just witnessed.

Within 2 miles of my home there are three fireworks tents set up in parking lots, and three grocery stores also with fireworks for sale. There is enough firepower to wage a small war. People are buying fireworks, and they sure as hell are going to use them — their safety and the safety of others be damned. My neighborhood will sound like a war zone all weekend, just as it did last year. You can't stop stupid people from being stupid, like these idiots. Pima County is sued over its ban on fireworks.

Maybe our Arizona legislature and governor should reconsider this ill-considered law and repeal it.

  1. “If you’re going to blame every fire on fireworks…” Yeah, you see, I did not blame any fire on fireworks. Reading comprehension, my friend. The bans are reasonable as a precaution to prevent fires. And you should spend some time in a hospital emergency room with some of those “ignorant” “total morons” you describe buying fireworks from you. How responsible is that? You get your facts straight.

  2. I just spent the last ten days in 110+ degree weather working in a fireworks tent, educating ignorant people on what is legal and what is not legal in Arizona. So many people think that aerial fireworks (i.e. bottle rockets) and firecrackers are legal. All we were selling were novelties like sparklers and smoke bombs, and fountains that sit on the ground and spew out sparks. Unless you’re a total moron, you’re not going to start a fire with any fireworks legal in Arizona. The vast majority of people do these in their background under controlled circumstances, not in the open desert or out in the forest.

Despite all of the negative press in the media and on moronic blog posts like this one, there were no major fireworks-related incidents in the Phoenix area this July 4. But because of ignorance and media bias, sales were dismal everywhere and most tent operators lost money.

Douchebag is right. Fireworks did not start the Wallow and other fires — retarded campers who left unattended campfires did that. I’ll be the first one to agree that aerial fireworks don’t belong in a dry state like Arizona because you have no idea where they’re going to land. The stuff we sold is pretty tame by comparison.

If you’re going to blame every fire on fireworks out of ignorance, you might as well take it a step further and ask for a ban on cigarettes, lighters, and matches. They start way more fires than fireworks do. Next time, get your facts straight before you post such stupid shit.

  3. KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT FIRST.THERE IS DOUCHEBAG,S OUT IN THE FOREST WHO START THESE FIRE,S THEY ARE NOT FROM FIREWORK,S.AND THE GOVONER DID NOT LEGALIZE BOTTLE ROCKET,S THAT SHOOT IN THE AIR.AND THEY SHOULD HAVE.TIME,S ARE TOUGH KNOW AND PEOPLE WILL DO THERE OWN FIREWORK,S AS PEOPLE DONT HAVE ALL THE EXTRA CASH TO GO TO PAY PLACE,S.AND THE FREE ONE,S ARE SHUT DOWN DO TO THE ECONOMY.PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW WHY THIS ALL HAS HAPPENED IT,S ALL THE DOUCHEBAG,S WHO VOTED FOR BUSH THE ECONOMY ALL WENT TO SHIT WHEN HE WENT IN OFFICE.GET A CLUE.DING DONG.
