Dear Readers

Here is a sampling of how some of Arizona’s leaders celebrated Indigenous People’s Day on October 10, 2023.

Tucson Mayor Regina Romero posted:

“Today is Indigenous Peoples’ Day. It is a day to recognize the sovereignty and resilience of indigenous peoples. The City of Tucson is located on the traditional lands that have been stewarded by the Tohono O’odham since time immemorial and the Pascua Yaqui people who have lived in the Sonoran Desert for thousands of years.

It is so important that we recognize the contributions of Native American peoples everywhere, understand the critical issues that impact their lives, and celebrate the. ways indigenous peoples are building thriving futures and vibrant communities.”
