Arizona Reaction To TSMC Investing $100 Billion More in the Phoenix Area

Today at the White House, Donald Trump, along with Taiwan Semi Conductor Manufacturing Chairperson (TSMC) C.C. Wei, announced plans for TSMC to invest an additional $100 billion in the Phoenix area.

TSMC has already planned investments of $65 billion in the Phoenix area mostly through the Biden/Harris CHIPS and Science Act.

In his remarks before tanking the stock market with his announcement of imposing tariffs on Mexico, Canada, and China, Trump said the decision from TSMC was a result of his tariff threats on Taiwan.

Reaction in Arizona to the new $100 billion infusion into the Grand Canyon State Economy was been universally positive.

Governor Katie Hobbs posted on social media:

“TSMC’s historic announcement cements Arizona as the epicenter of advanced chip manufacturing and innovation in America. With the country’s most advanced chip-making processes, world-class university partners, and a robust and growing talent pipeline, Arizona is powering the groundbreaking technologies of the future like AI.”

Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego commented in a press release:

“TSMC is doubling down on its investment with an expansion in Phoenix testament to the U.S. semiconductor industry growth that will deliver a major win for American workers. This investment further strengthens domestic chip manufacturing, reduces reliance on foreign supply chains, and enhances national security. Billions in investment and thousands of high-tech, high-paying jobs illustrate how TSMC is a partner in cementing Phoenix as a global leader in semiconductor production. This expansion energizes innovation that fosters more economic growth, opportunities for skilled workers, and positions the Phoenix region at the forefront of advanced manufacturing.”

She also posted on social media:

Senator Mark Kelly also wrote in a press release:

“This is huge news for Arizona that officially cements our state as a global hub for building the most advanced microchips in the world, and will put tens of thousands of Arizonans to work in good-paying jobs that do not require a 4-year degree.

“Today’s announcement builds on years of bipartisan collaboration between Arizona’s federal, state, and local leaders and our economic development teams to make our state the best place in the country to build these one-of-a-kind facilities. By boosting domestic microchip development and production, we’re reducing reliance on foreign supply chains and making sure America leads the way in the industries of the future.”

Senator Ruben Gallego posted:

“This is a huge win for Arizona workers and builds on the CHIPS and Science Act I helped pass. TSMC is investing an additional $100B in our state. That’s what happens when we invest in American manufacturing.”

Representative Greg Stanton conveyed in another posting:

“TSMC is doubling down on their investment in our state with three new chip manufacturing plants & two advanced packaging facilities—a $100 billion deal! Thanks to years of bipartisan collaboration—including federal investments under our CHIPS Act—we’re solidifying Arizona’s position as a global semiconductor leader & creating thousands of good-paying jobs.”

The Arizona Commerce Authority posted:

Arizonans should welcome, as Representative Stanton called it, “bipartisan collaboration” which creates a win win for the state and its economy.
