The Tucson Chinese Cultural Center has organized two celebrations for Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage month for May. Zoom in on youtube.com for both events on May 8 and 15. Some Japanese American culture will be highlighted.

Stay tuned for youtube.com links as mentioned in the flyer. As an Asian American who grew up on a Pacific Island (Big Isle of Hawaii), this should be culturally entertaining.  www. tucsonchinese.org.

Updated with performance schedule:

Our Asian/Pacific American community has several labels now, such as AAPI (Asian American Pacific Islander) or APIDA (Asian Pacific Islander Desi American).  I prefer Asian American Pacific Americans or AAPI.

And if you want to learn more about AAPI community, here’s more from ABA Civil Rights & Social Justice:

“Celebrated in May, Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month recognizes the challenges faced by Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, and their vital contributions to the American story.
We are excited to announce the launch of our latest #free webinar series in commemoration of #AAPIHeritageMonth, beginning THIS FRIDAY!
In this engaging series, we will dive into the experiences of the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities along with the social, political, and economic issues they have and continue to face. We will address topics including systemic discrimination, stereotypes, constitutional rights, identity and intersectionality, and more.

  1. If you missed these Asian/Pacific performances tonight, here’s the youtube video:

Stay tuned for next Saturday’s performances as well, at 4 p.m.MST. Enjoyed the lively Tahitian dancers the most, since I’m from Hawaii, and that’s my favorite Polynesian dancing.
