State Senator Victoria Steele (D-LD9) announced on Facebook that she has a breakthrough case of Covid. She is an advocate of the Equal Rights Amendment, protecting victims of sexual violence, and investigating the epidemic of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls.
“I never asked Santa for this,” she quipped. “It was Christmas morning, and the exhaustion was getting worse, my lungs felt funny, and so I did the home test. Positive for COVID. I had a rush of mixed emotions:
- “Shame — because even though I thought I was being very careful – after all, I am triple vaxxed, and wear a mask indoors in public. Apparently, I wasn’t careful enough.”
- “Fury – at those who stupidly, selfishly, and cruelly don’t care enough about themselves or others to get vaccinated, mask up, or isolate. I admit to fantasizing about ripping off the face of the next moron who dares to say that Covid is not real.”
Steele represented LD9 in the Arizona House of Representatives from 2012 to 2016, and was thereafter elected to the state Senate.
“I’m so worried that I’ve infected my elderly parents because I spent last Thursday with Mom, getting her nails done, and then taking Dad to the doctor. We wore our masks in the doctor’s office and the nail salon but not in the car or at home. I kissed and hugged them, and we shared a meal because I love them — it’s what we do. I did not realize that even though we all had our boosters, they were very vulnerable, and I had unwittingly contracted a breakthrough case. So far, they’re good and will get tested Monday. But I could not spend Christmas with my loved ones, and I felt tremendous guilt for exposing them.”
Steele said her symptoms are not severe and include headache, fatigue, aching in her lungs, and an occasional sore throat.
“I am trying to take daily walks to build my strength and work off my anger. Because the whole reason the pandemic is still raging out of control going on three years is because idiots refuse to get vaccinated, wear a mask, or isolate.”
In Arizona, 66% of the state has received at least one dose of the Covid vaccine. Meanwhile, hospitals are overflowing because 93% of hospitalized COVID-19 patients are unvaccinated.
Anger at Gov. Ducey
“Just one more thing and I know it’s probably pointless, but for God’s sake Gov. Ducey, will you please lead on this issue? Burying your head in the sand like this is a death sentence to the rest of us.:
The governor is responsible for the deaths of 23,800 Arizonans because of his inaction on the virus. Ducey is a malignant anti-mandate Republican governor who relies on ineffective voluntary vaccination as the state’s primary method to combat Covid.
“And no, I will not be inviting anyone to the opening of the Arizona Legislative Session and your speech, Governor — because our Senate President, Karen Fann, will not require masks and proof of vaccination and will not automatically grant compromised Senators to participate in the session remotely. So, if you don’t care about yourself or your loved ones, come and watch as we all share our germs in a legislative incubator and just hope, hope, that you’ll be okay and that if you’re not, you won’t unknowingly infect anyone else,” Steele said.
